What I like about Totoya is that its very homey. It doesn't feel like you are just being served 'western' Japanese (if you know what I mean!) - I love their grilled dishes, and their sushi boat is so fresh and good value!
The only downside is, most of the time I find their wait staff can't speak English properly, and a lot of the time they do get orders wrong, and they have no idea what you are talking about. However, nothing serious a smile cannot fix!

Approximate cost: $18

This is a bustling Japanese eatery with pretty good food. However, be warned that the bento boxes are only available for lunch and no don sets seem to exist on the dinner menu either. Not being very hungry, I ordered the rice in tea (with salmon) and a chicken liver skewer. The rice dish was interesting - a small bowl of rice submerged in lightly flavoured broth and flakes of salmon, wasabi on the side. More salmon would have been better but a pleasant dish nonetheless. The wasabi was great - less pungent than the normal tube stuff and complemented the dish. The chicken livers were delightful; not overcooked with a lovely velvety texture.
Service was ok but the waitress forgot about 2 skewer orders from my table. Those came well after we'd finish our meals and only because we reminded them about it.

Approximate cost: $20
