Great Japanese restaurant serving freshest fish. The raw sashimi was decently priced (approx $10) and the sashimi set was around $15, which is really affordable for the quality. Will want to come back!

Tsukiji in Prahran functions more like a seafood deli. Patrons can pick items off the fridge and request the staff to slice them up for takeaway or more consumption in the premises. Service can be a bit slow especially during peak hours as it is run by an elderly couple. It seemed popular with people coming in on a Saturday evening just to have sashimi.

We were able to choose from a selection of fresh scallops, salmon, kingfish, trout, clam etc. The natural sweetness from the fish was evident. For $50 for 2 people, it is a real bargain.

Hot items such as noodles are also available if you want to supplement your sashimi meal.

All in all, a fantastic place to go to if you’re craving for some sashimi.

For sashimi, one of the best in Melbourne. Beautiful fish, extremely fresh, presented with artistry and treated with care. I would put this place at the top of my list for sashimi platters. The other items on the menu I cannot talk about, but the sashimi was very good.
One thing I would like to note, is that Tsukiji combines both a mini fish market (with portions of market fresh fish packed daily) and a small eat in area. So not only can you eat freshly prepared fish in store, you can also purchase fish and seafood portions to prepared and eat at home.

Top tier sashimi experience. I personally have not had better in terms of a boutique sashimi atmosphere and the actual sashimi itself. You get to select top quality portions of fish from the clear refrigerated cabinet, and they slice it for you, creating a visually stunning plate of sashmi from your selections. Choose from scallops, salmon, tuna, kingfish, clams etc. It is guaranteed to be fresh and delicious. Great value too, because rather than splashing out on luxury decor and prime real estate, the owners have chosen to focus on the actual food. Lovely boutique experience. The only downside is that they are only open for lunch. The menu also offers other non-sashimi options; gyoza, don, curry etc. But the sashimi is definitely the highlight.

If you want the best quality sashimi and sushi in Melbourne this is the place to come. Run by a Japanese owner who will only buy the freshest fish you will be guaranteed to eat well. They have a small sushi bar where you can eat in or you can get the owner to slice fish for you, or buy small quantities of different types of sashimi, sushi and a range of frozen Japanese food and Japanese groceries plus some pretty good wagyu beef. Check the hours before you go as they are often only open from 12-5, but it is worth it! Also better to get there near opening if you want the best as it goes quickly, people know it is great quality!
