I'm a bike novice, I really have no idea about them apart from that I have one, and sometimes ride it. The staff at Velo have always been really helpful and friendly, and totally un-intimidating which is definitely what keeps me going back.

I didn't even know you could GET a bike serviced until taking it into these people, and they made it run like new. I then bought a new bike from them last year and continue to visit this shop every time I want to have a browse or need to pick something up - a helmet, new lights, little gadgets, etc.

If you're looking for a good bike shop or want a new bike, I would absolutely recommend Velo Cycles. Don't worry about seeming like an idiot or knowing nothing, they're really practical and helpful, and are interested in helping to set you up with something that will suit your needs.

I stumbled across this bike shop after a mechanical issue interrupted my ride a few months ago, which was fixed on the spot. I have since been back every time I need something, and what a fantastic bike shop. I have been in a few times, and always left feeling satisfied. I have bought my expensive high end road and mountain bikes in, and had expert advice, and have also bought my friends bikes (old retro & crappy bikes) and the attitude has always been the same regardless of which bike I bring in. They always seem genuinely interested in what I want to do, and offer their opinion without the ego that you tend to get at some bike shops. It seems that safety and rider satisfaction are higher on the list than sales and up-selling, and they always try to fix something before replacing it. They have done the research and ordered me items that I could not find anywhere, both expensive and even cheap small parts and they arrive within the week. There are at least 5 or 6 bike shops closer to me, but I'm happy to make the trip across town. The only downside is that they are always busy, but always worth the wait. Servicing is always done on the day if I book it in advance, drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon. With their free courtesy bikes too (that are great fun to ride), and reasonable service pricing, I would say they are the best bike shop in Melbourne, and I have frequented most of them!
5 stars all round, well done, go VELO!

Whenever I pop in here I get great advice and service. Sitting right on the Park St bike path they can get very busy, but they have a great attitude. A range of bikes matched to the area's 'personality' and a fantastic bike service section that gives accurate pre-quotes and helpful tips. I've popped in a couple of times with mysterious bike malfunctions and they are more than happy to fix it on the on the spot with a friendly smile.
I had an old bike looked over and they cared about the detail like the look of the tyres and whether black or white brake cables would look smarter. My preferred bike store for nearly everything. I just wish they had more girly bike bags from the Basil range!

Approximate cost: $75
