Never disappoints with the quality of food. Always well presented, interesting, and most of all delicious! Always friendly staff and good service.

The Gang had Sunday morning yum cha there yesterday. The dishes mightn't have come out of the kitchen quite as steaming hot as at my other yum cha fave Me Wah, but the selection was more varied and I don't mind typically Aussie friendly, jokey service even if it wasn't as briskly efficient as at Me Wah. My one complaint is, as so often, noise! With a big barn of a place like the Pumphouse you're going to get a good deal of ambient noise from other diners. Fine, but you could compensate by having a) the right type of music - nothing with high-pitched trumpet please! and b) at a volume that doesn't make conversation difficult. They lost a whole star for not acting on our request to turn the music down a decibel or two when we asked and they said they would!

Whilst holidaying in Hobart we failed to think about needing to book restaurants. Westend Pump House happened to have some space at their bench overlooking the kitchen, and I am SO glad we sat there!! I loved spending the meal peering into the kitchen to see what they were all doing (can't say my company enjoyed my doing that as much) but it was fantastic. The whole place has a great casual 'pub' feel, whilst being a really polished restaurant. The food was spectacular (seafood and meat) and the staff were friendly and attentive. It was also great to see a kitchen working so seamlessly and getting along (I suppose they need to be when on show!) Our desserts were a little disappointing, with overpowering garnishes and being fairly average when compared with the rest of the evening, but it didn't spoil it for us at all. Definitely recommend if you're in Hobart.

Had lunch here today, had been meaning to drop in for coffee for a while, often walk past.
The interior is much larger than it looks from outside, with lots of variety of seating - some sofa/armchairs, plenty of tables for one or two, a few high benches with barstools, and a long table near the window that seats ten - perfect to spread out your newspaper! I sat there.
As you walk in the door, there's a huge round open fire/brazier that was so comforting on this chilly day that I spent five minutes just basking in front of it!
For lunch I had the charred lamb belly with chilli and lime, and the smashed potatoes with herb aioli, both from the Morsels menu.
The lamb was delicious, perfectly cooked, tender, and easy to eat. It was small, as I expected ("Morsels") and just right for lunch with a side of something else.
The potatoes were also delicious, but oh my God, the dinner plate was full to overflowing with them! I'd envisioned a portion size around the same as the lamb - even if you ordered only the potatoes, most people would be hard put to finish the whole plate. I had to leave about two thirds of them.
The service was friendly and not too slow, and I was greeted virtually as soon as I'd sat down & offered a drink while reading the menu.
My only gripe - the long wooden table was sticky, all over. I heard the couple next to me commenting about it also. The moment I put my newspaper on it, I could feel it was tacky, and as soon as I touched it once - well, I didn't want to touch it with my bare skin or my clothing again. I did mention this to the person behind the till as I left, but she didn't seem very interested, and certainly made no move to get someone to clean it. There were only three people at the table at 2pm when I was there, and the entire length of it was sticky (or dirty, which is how my brain translates a sticky table), certainly wasn't so full if people they hadn't had a chance to wipe it. it felt like it needed a good scrub with hot, soapy water.
Apart from this, the food was good, the price ok - $12 for the lamb, $10 for the potatoes.
I'd go back (would check out how clean the tables were first though), and would recommend it to others - and I'd tell them to order the potatoes between at least two people!

Approximate cost: $22

A great place for lunch. Good hearty food with a bit of a special touch. Last time we went the service was a little slow, but usually its ok. Lovely atmosphere. Huge range of specialty beers to keep the boys happy.

This used to be the Cupping Room cafe/restaurant, and before that a garage that rented cars. I visited yesterday for the first time for lunch with friends.
The acoustics of this building have been improved - the ceiling has wooden sheeting on it, so conversation does not echo as noisly as previously.
Decor and atmosphere were pleasant, plenty of tables and casual seating.
Great coffee and chai latte.
Beetroot, goat's cheese and lamb salad was very good; caesar salad was good but not outstanding, not a lot of bacon but at least it was chunky tasty bacon.
Prices of meals on the more expensive side.
Service was polite but standard. We had to go and get a waitress to give us menus and take our order.
Overall it was a pleasant lunch, and I would be prepared to go back and try it again. Apparently they are open for dinner 5 nights a week so may try them for dinner soon.
