The most terrible emergency department. I went there after suffering a stress fracture to my left knee. I was in severe pain and could not walk. I had to wait hours but because I have thin legs the treating supervising doctors looked at my leg and said that it looked normal to him despite the fact that I could no longer get my foot into my shoe because of swelling! I was sent home without even an x-ray being done. Absolutely disgraceful! I couldn't recommend this hospital to anyone.

Hello Westmead Hospital ,

I just had my surgery yesterday. all went ok and I am now recovering at home. I have to say I read nany reviews and many people don’t understand Sydney is a large city and so many people need care or urgent care.
This was my 21 surgery plus I have about up to 200 medical appointment a year. I have been to the emergency department only a few times. So I have a lot of experience and insights knowing how the system works.
My personal opinion is that I am giving the staff and doctors and surgeons and support staff a 9 out of 10. Not a 10 because nothing is perfect in life.
I have never had any issues complaining about anything , the services they provide are just excellent I have seen a lot of staff going out of there way to help and treat patients. But the staff always always will do their best to help or at least try to help a patient.
I have to admit a lot of staff I spoke to are overworked.
Even the management is of course stretched with the money they get from the government. But ….. most people don’t realise all of that.
I have seen so many patients complaining and complaining , the staff is no good and that and that is no good , WELL HELLO ….. we in Australia just wait patiently for our turn. Of course the staff will help urgent cases straight away.
I have seen people also complain about food , there is nothing wrong with the food , at least the hospital feeds a patient and the meals are always tasteful and nutritional. Hospitals are not restaurants or your own kitchen , they will feed patients 3 times a day.
Of course things go wrong or a patient thinks their treatment is more important then someone else’s. Just wait patiently and the staff will attend to you , please do not complain. Also I have noticed many patients can hardly speak English and come to emergency or during visiting hours with 10 family members. They bring there own cooked meals from home. just try the hospital food , they won’t poison you , they are there to help you.
Also MANY patients have to try to learn speaking English. It makes it so much easier for all the staff. It even happens many times I have noticed that some staff speak multiple languages , so that makes it easier for the patients.
If a reader doesn’t like what I have written then that’s bad luck. But it is the truth many parents don’t want to read about.
All the staff will ALWAYS ALWAYS do their best to help patients , they work extremely hard , they also have to write reports during the patients stay and they don’t read their emails or sms what many patients think. The staff have many times got to write long discharge letters and during the patients stay they have to keep all the records up to date.
MY CONVLUSION ABD ADVICE : please try to speak English and don’t take so many family members along , the most important will be TO BE PATIENT , WAIT FOR YOUR TURN , THEY WILL ALWAYS ATTEND TO YOU AND WHEN YOU ARE WAITING TIME ALWAYS SEEMS TO BE TAKING LONGER , TREAT THE STAFF WITH RESPECT ( i I have seen many fights which resulted getting involved with security guards to protect the staff ) , TRY THE FOOD.
I had so many surgeries , spend so many times in hospital , stayed overnight so so many times , been multiple months in rehab , many times in emergency departments , been there and seen it all and experienced it all.
THESE HAVE BEEN MY OPINIONS AND ADVICES. Thank you.

ps. the hospital can always contact me if they like

Spent a month here at Westmead and I could not be more proud and humbled by the professionalism of the nurses and doctors. I contribute my speedy recovery to these Angels and words can not convey enough thanks. You deserve your own equivalent ANZAC day. My humble thankyou always!

Longer wait then anticipated, understandable during a pandemic. 9hours of no care for a health threatening situation left us quite baffled.
Finally met by a inappropriately sarcastic doctor.

This is a great hospital. I go every month for a routine procedure. The wait is dependent on the amount of people who should have presented at the Dr and not emergency.
If you are sick go to the GP. Emergency is not designed for people to influx.
All of the nursing staff and doctors always listen and take good care of my client.
This week was so much better as you were not allowed a support person unless absolutely necessary. The environment was better, people were being treated quicker and the nursing team appeared less stressed.
Special mention to Izzy and Phillip (ED doctors) and also to all of the beautiful caring nurses. You all do an amazing job.
Thank you!!

I was at Westmead Hospital on the 13th and the 15th of May 2021 both whole day at the Emergency Urgent Care so I was able to see different staffs working. During these days I was impressed on how Rosie Sarkis attends to the needs of her patients in the Urgent Care. She makes sure that  my son is as comfortable as he can inspite of his pain. This treatment applies to all the patients inside the Urgent Care.  She always communicate  to the patients and carers whenever she has updates...always serve you with enthusiastic and friendly way. She was very professional and you could see that she enjoyed and loved doing her work. Hoping that Westmead  Hospital will give Rosie Sarkis a recognition for her service, dedication and professionalism.
