I took my vehicle to get a safety certificate for transfer of registration from NSW to Qld, I have owned the vehicle since it was new, and it has only ever been to one mechanic servicing always done as per the sticker on the windscreen (NSW requires a safety certificate every year to re-register) it failed the requirements according to Jap Motor & Carby Centre and they presented me with a quote of almost $2000 to repair (time was not on my side) so I booked the vehicle in to have it fixed. Brakes and Exhaust system were part of the work.
Within 4 months and less than 1000 klms travelled the brakes failed and I was forced to use another mechanic as Jap motor said they could not look at it for 2 weeks
The brakes were repaired again for $540, and the report indicated the exhaust system was leaking. I rang Jap and waited the 2 weeks as this was not a safety issue, they inspected the leak and told me it would cost an additional $130 to repair it.
I went elsewhere this business is STRONGLY NOT RECOMMENDED

A safety certificate inspection is not a comprehensive mechanical inspection on the quality, or life expectancy of a vehicle. It is to ensure the vehicle is safe to be driven on the road.
This inspection covers the basic vehicle safety standards for many components including:
• tyres
• brakes
• steering
• suspension
• body rust or damage
• windscreen
• lights.
