I visited this shop for the first time recently as I was looking for a suitable piece of parchment paper to have some calligraphy done as part of a wedding gift. This sales lady recommended a particular option which I accepted. I then showed photos of the paper to the Calligrapher I chose who told me the paper was too dimpled in her view to get the best results, and recommended using her own parchment paper instead. So given the piece was for a Wedding gift, I went with the Calligrapher's recommendation. Then today, I returned to the shop with the parchment paper (still taped closed in the paper bag they wrapped it in), explained the situation and requested to return the item for a refund. The Manager then refused a refund, pointing to a small sign on the counter stating no returns on paper stock and their policy written on the receipt. I then calmly explained a/ I am a new customer to the store, b/ I was not aware of the no returns policy as the sales assitant did not inform me and I did not see the small sign on the counter, c/ I had obviously not opened or touched the parchment paper, d/ As a consequence, the paper was in saleable condition and e/ In relation to Fair Trading law, I had taken a recommendation from the sales assistant which my Calligrapher later told me was not fit for purpose. Despite all this, the Manager of the store was unmoved and refused the poultry refund of $2.50. Bewildered, I told the Manager i'd taken shops to VCAT on principle over less and won. She still refused a refund. At that point, I gave up, handed the paper to the Manager and told her I had no use for it, then walked out of the store vowing to never return. The arrogant Manager quipped "Good" as I was walking out the door. So let's get this straight, the Manager has lost my future custom, good will, and prompted me to post online reviews about my experience to warn others about this business. Research has shown that happy customers tell about 4-6 people about their experience. Dissatisfied customers tell between 9-15 people about their experience, whilst around 13% of dissatisfied customers tell more than 20 people. I've already told a friend who lives in the area who told me "We wont be going into that store". My advice, avoid this business!
