I've been going to this hairdressers since I was a kid. While I've tried a few others since, nothing has ever compared to the quality here.
I always get the haircut I want, though the staff offer suggestions, just to help make it sit better, be easier to look after, easier to style etc. Always helpful, but never pushy.
The staff are incredibly well trained, and know their stuff. I have never come away from Charisse with a haircut I didn't like, even though my very curly hair can sometimes be hard to find a suitable style or shape for, without having the same haircut over and over again, or straightening it every day.
The staff are also friendly, and chatty, as you would expect from a hairdresser.
They are not an "el-cheapo" hairdresser, like so many that are popping up now, but nor are they very expensive, and it's worth every cent.
Approximate cost: $Dpends what you're getting done.
Great food, great staff, great atmosphere. Definitely one of my first picks for a kicking off a night out, or drinks after work.
Close to fed square for parking (or you can walk from flinders st), yet so tucked away you wouldn't know it's there. The crowd, and the atmosphere, are both always friendly.
We went here for a friend's birthday dinner. Most of us had one of the banquets, and the food was just amazing. Everything was fresh, and presented beautifully, and some of it was prepared at our table. For the most part the service was great, though we did have one waitress who had a lot of trouble with our drink orders - both understanding the order, and the way the drinks were brought out, but the food waiters were great. There was plenty of food, and the serves were just right - you didn't feel completely stuffed half way through, but you were certainly full by the end. We finished the night with all the staff singing happy birthday, and a fried icecream cake brought out with a rather large scimitar for decoration. They also took a photo of the birthday girl, for her to take home.
It was a great night out, and the best asian food I can remember having in a long time.
Approximate cost: $25-65
I've been to this SO many times, and I just love it. The clothing they sell is beautiful, and well made, and not something you'll find elsewhere easily. It's all very retro - think diner shirts, 50s dresses, rocknroll, and hot rod culture. The staff are fantastic, they'll help you with anything, from putting an outfit together, to what bands are playing this weekend. They even have an annual fashion show - with live bands, and hot rods to match. I can't get enough of this place, and always keep going back. They have a store in Grattan street, Prahran, and also in Cathedral Arcade, right near Flinders St station. They sell men's and women's clothing, shoes, and some accessories.

The best piercing experience I've had, by far. Amazing staff, both friendly, and very professional. The environment is great, and very comfortable. Much better than most places, and made the pre-piercing nerves almost 0. Having both nipples pierced was kind of a daunting idea at first, and most piercing places and staff don't help, but here, it was easier than having my lip or eyebrow done at other places on previous occassions. I was given a female piercer, without question, by the name of Lou, who was fantastic. Both the staff on were very knowledgeable, friendly, and talkative enough to soothe any jitters. Lou explained aftercare well, and gave me everything I needed for the aftercare process. I was unsure, at first, how well the piercing would heal, having both navel and eyebrow piercings done at other places grow out, after my body rejected them. Both Lou and the other staff member (not sure of his name) assured me that with the right sized jewellery, an experienced piercer, and proper aftercare, I shouldn't have any problems. I was still a bit sceptic, but more than a week later, my piercings look fantastic, and there's no sign of rejection, or infection. I couldn't ask for better.
There are also fantastic specials - on each day of the week, one type of piercing is half price, and jewellery is 25% off. While still slightly more expensive than your average piercer, it's well worth the extra cost, both for their knowledge and experience, and the comfortable atmosphere most other piercing places lack.
Approximate cost: $175 for two piercings.
