Well, it's pizza by the slice.

It's sad to see so many of these stores have disappeared. What for? More Dominos? Urghhh.

I used to love being able to walk down the road and get a couple of slices of different pizza. And for a buck a piece it was 2am heaven. But now I'm showing my age, and also different city.

I used to love a place called Fab's in North Perth (Walcott St), which did a great selection of pizza by the slice, and teriffic coffee. If anyone knows where they are now....?

Now, NYC Pizza. Haven't been there recently, but used to work in QV1 and surrounds, so used to go after work a fair bit. Love the fact they can reheat the pizza and it still tastes good. Love the HUGE takeaway pizzas, as well as the slices.

The chilli they use even manages to register some heat!

It's good to see there is still some room in Perth for lunch options other than $12 sushi and $18 salads.

Really love this place. If you get over the bogans, rednecks and lack of seating, you'll realise there is a reason these guys are always busy.

The burgers are among the best "roadhouse"/truck-stop fare I've had. Now don't get me wrong, I love road-house burgers. Some of my happiest memories of working as a young graduate were truck-stop toasties and road-house burgers.

But I digress. Whether its a steak sandwich, the cram, or just the whole kitchen sink, they can shove it in some bread and serve it too you juicy and warm.

And not just burgers. Make sure you try the Pea and Ham soup. And the chips are excellent.

Well. It was a long work day. But then I remembered seeing a cafe not far from work, which seemed to be open late.

We decided to give it a go. I mean, it looked pretty cool (from the outside) and hey, it was open. (Yes I don't learn - see my review on Exomod.)

The first thing that hit me was, "Oh, is this and Indian take-away or a coffee shop?). But they had the machine and seemed to be serving coffee and the prices seemed okay. I asked the, err.., "barista" So decided to go with my regular order of a macchiato, this time a double.

The "barista" then disappeared. Then reappeared with a mobile phone. He made a call and was asking the person at the other end (presumably some kind of Cafe help line or call centre) where the chocolate was.

Okay, so I know at this stage I should have turned around and ran. But hey it could have been for another customer. The one who just ordered a curry. I like chocolate curry. Mmmmm... Something to dip the naan in.

Now, that I had returned from daydreaming about chocolate naan bread, the "barista" was still trying to decipher the coffee chart on the fridge door.

I saw my chance and told him that actually I would need to go now. And not to worry about the coffee. Thank you.

Then I ran away screaming "Arrrrrrrrggggghhhhhhhh........."

Serving up Five Senses Coffee with Bannister Downs milk, its a fairly winning combination.
They have a number of cupcakes for those with a sweet tooth; and a good understanding of how to make a coffee. (If I order a macchiato I actually get one.)

The coffees aren't over diluted with milk, for those that like a "flat white" (I mean honestly, what exactly is a flat white?), and the coffee hit is strong and flavourful.

Plus the decor reminds me of Melbourne (what the hell am I doing in this town?) and it's location is quite convenient to us city dwellers.

Plus they actually open late (except Mon/Tues).

Well. I guess they are a late night cafe that services to the coffee deprived evening dwellers.
The cakes are priced ok, but frankly way too big to get through.
The coffee, well I guess it has caffeine in it.
The coffees we ordered, when they finally arrived, were a little "burnt", the milk well past its usable point (ie too much separation, and had obviously been reheated)
Now, by the time most of the table were "finished" with thier coffees, my tea still hadn't arrived.

I had tried a few times to wave down a waitress, and finally got up and went to the counter. I pointed at the counter behind the till and suggested that maybe that was my pot of tea that I'd been waiting over 25 minutes for.
The response was "Oh, you want to order a pot of tea?"
Anyway, after a few minutes of "haggling" my tea was finally brought to the table.

Well, as you've probably guessed it was cold. And secondly it was English Breakfast. I had ordered Earl Grey.

Ok, so returned the pot saying, 1) It was cold, 2) It wasn't Earl Grey.

Another 10 minutes.

Finally Tea. By this stage rest of table getting well and truly annoyed as they had discarded the remnants of their coffee and were way past the point of being ready to leave.

Hmm... A distinct lack of aroma. A distinct lack of any trace of bergamot.

Sigh.

We left shortly after.

Love this place! Best coffee on Angove, and I'd say probably best in North Perth.

Used to love this place. Some great guys on the machine (Ross!!) but not the same punch as when it first opened.

Overall OK coffee, but could do better a little further up the road.

Always friendly service, though often VERY full. Great for a quick cup. Nice decor, great location. Could be bigger though!
