Over the last 2 days we have purchased a
new alternator for a Hilux Diesel LN65 with the vacuum pump on the back. Picked up the unit in an unopened box brought it home and fitted it. From there things went strange. :-( Stent 4 hours trying to figure out why in was overcharging and all the dash indicators where on faintly and that was at idle. 17 Volts and 40 amps of charge. In the end we disconnected the battery feed and fitted a resistive load and it regulated at 28.2 Volts indicating 24V system. The numbers on the box showed 12V. So this morning I rang Tim at City Dismantlers expecting a grumpy reaction, but I was pleasantly surprised when he listened to the tests we had done and expressed, like us, confusion, so he put me through to the Alternator Guy who after listening, agreed to, unpack, test and ship me another unit on the half day express. The unit arrived on time and was fitted quickly. It works brilliantly. The wrong unit was not City Dismantlers fault, the manufacturer/supplier had packed the wrong unit. It is refreshing to find people in the automotive industry who are NOT GRUMPY when things go wrong and act in a thoroughly professional and helpful manner. I will definitely use and recommend these people again. Thanks Tim and the Alternator Guy.
