My elderly father is currently in the hospital. I am frustrated with the lack of communication regarding my father's care- communication to us and communication between the various nursing staff and specialists. For example he was in ICU and the speech therapist said he could have thickened fluids to enable him to have his Parkinsons and blood pressure medication. He was transferred to a surgical ward, and when we came to see him he was on "essential meds" only and nil by mouth. This was advised by a different Speech therapist. He was not given his Parkinsons meds nor his blood pressure meds and then when they took his blood pressure it was high, and so he had to be given blood pressure medication through his I.V And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I don't how many times we said his SPC catheter was due to be changed and one staff member told us they didn't know how to do it and as of yesterday nothing had been done. We were told he was waiting to be seen by a neurologist days ago-still waiting for that to happen. It seems he has just been dumped in a ward and left with only minimal attention.
