This review is for Kebabz, Perisher Valley NSW

verified email - 21 Aug 2013

Busy, bustling, expensive, and well hidden from the pretty scenery in Perisher's stifling food-court, it's lucky Kebabz has some seriously tasty kebabs going for it.

Their felafel roll in particular was delicious, as was their gozleme (maybe I went back a few times :P), and in the AM, they make really tasty egg and bacon rolls.

It's expensive, like everything on the mountain, but for $15 I got a drink and very generous kebab with all the trimmings, and the staff were friendly, if not a little slow (which I can't really blame them for given how busy they were on a really snowy weekend).

Approximate cost: $15

This review is for Burning Log Restaurant, Perisher Valley NSW

Open seasonaly, like the resort, the Burning Log is one of the nicer of the many busy takeaway bistros and eateries across the resort.

I took my cousin here a couple of months ago, and while they didn't have a huge range of variety--just your typical burgers, chips, hot dogs, and kransky rolls--the tucked-away Guthega location, and picturesque location, almost constantly buried in snow, made up for it.

Definitely one of the nicer places to stop for lunch. It was a little quieter than the busy Perisher Centre, Half-Way Station Cafe, or the Blue Cow Terminal eatery, and the prices on par; unfortunately, there's not quite as much variety, and you'll be facing the fairly typical mountain-premium prices, but it was a nice place to stop for a refuel!

This review is for Brunelli's Café, Perisher Valley NSW

Decent coffee, and super-chocolatey hot chocolate, combined with a truly fantastic location make Brunelli's an easy choice for a hot-drink-stop on the mountain.

I stopped here at the end of a long day skiing to buy my nephew and hubby hot chocolates, and even though they were clearly trying to close, the staff were friendly and accomodating, and let my nephew help himself to marshmallows. The hot chocolates were SUPER chocolatey, and well priced, given those mountain prices.

This review is for Bacco Italian Restaurant, Jindabyne NSW

This popular pizzeria/restaurant in Jindabyne is always busy, and it's not hard to see why--they have one of the best locations in the town, backed up with tasty hot pizzas and pastas, at an (area-dependant) reasonable price.

It's split into two areas: a small casual eat in/takeaway pizza place, and a more formal restaurant. Each has a separate menu. The eat in side of the takeaway is small and crowded and a little cold, so it's not my favourite place to dine-in, but the food IS good. In the warmer months, I'd just get takeaway and take it to sit in the courtyard of Nugget's.

The pizzas are good, the service is good, and the prices are decent. Definitely worth a visit!

This review is for Avalunch Cafe, Perisher Valley NSW

This perpetually busy outdoor-seating cafe serves some of the best hot chocolates on the mountain--and has one of the best locations.

Located at the bottom of the Pretty Valley Double Chair, it would be the most stunning place to take a break, and sit outside on a sunny day (though we didn't have much sun this past weekend when we there!).

They sell takeaway snacks, chips, and chocolate bars, but it's all about the hot chocolate and location, for me. They have these amazing hot chocolate creations with cream, marshmallows, and bit of chocolate bars that I just couldn't go past!

This review is for Jax Bar & Chargrill, Perisher Valley NSW

verified email - 16 Aug 2013

The 'cook your own' food's overpriced and forgettable, but Jax isn't about the food. Located at the bottom of Perisher's Front Valley, just beneath the V8, Jax is the perfect place to put your feet up, and escape the cold with a cold one.

The drinks (whether you want a schooner of Coke, or a schooner of beer) are surprisingly well priced, and the bar plays venue to some great live music, too. I nearly fell over when I ordered a glass of coke and a bottle of water from her a few weeks ago and was 'only' charge $7.50 (I keep remembering paying $6 for a single bottle of water at the Easter Show and was really pleasantly surprised).

The Bar staff were really friendly and efficient, and it's a welcome escape from the crowds outside, even when it's crowded itself.

This review is for Sundance Bakery, Perisher Valley NSW

verified email - 16 Aug 2013

The younger sibling to Jindabyne's iconic Sundance bakery, the Sundance Bakery in the Perisher Centre of the Perisher ski resort serves a variety of hot pies, sausage rolls and pastries, as well as coffee and chocolate.

We went to buy a coffee here on the weekend and the line was out the tiny shop, but it wasn't hard to see why--and it moved fast. I thought it was a pretty good recommendation for it given the massive coffee shop just next door.

The pies and pastries are second to none, and also the best-value food available if you're eating on the mountain. Give the $15 burger and chips a miss, and buy a $5 pie.

Approximate cost: $5-10

This review is for Li'l Orbits, Perisher Valley NSW

verified email - 16 Aug 2013

Located in the Perisher Valley Skitube terminal, L'il Orbits is practically an institution. Nothing tops piping-hot tiny donuts while you're waiting for the train up/down the mountain in the cold!

We got off the ski tube at Perisher to be confronted with the smell of freshly cooked donuts, and couldn't go passed them without indulging. Give the glazed variety a miss--we got the hot cinnamon donuts, cooked fresh, and they were amazing! it's amazing how busy this hidden away little place can be, but I guess they have a captive audience with everyone waiting for the train!

This review is for Lexin Kebabs, Bella Vista NSW

I really, really want to say nice things about this place. The service is good, and they're reasonably priced; I've had a couple of really nice felafel rolls there at lunch time. But it's the bad experiences that make the most lasting impressions, I think.

I've twice had a kebab or gozleme at this place with bad cheese. And there is nothing worse than biting into a hot kebab and noticing, right as you swallow, the rancid after taste of off cheese on your tongue.

Put it down to bad luck--my husband's eaten here a few times and has never had a bad experience--but I'm a little dissapointed. Check them out if you have a kebab craving and you're in the area. But maybe skip the cheese on your kebab.

This review is for Sushi Culture Bella Vista, Bella Vista NSW

verified email - 16 Aug 2013

This busy sushi-train-style restaurant is set in a much larger building/block, and a little off the street, so it took me a little while to discover it. So glad I did.

Busy and bustling during lunch hour the sushi was fresh, and you can sit at the bar/train and watch it being made right in front of your eyes.

They offer the standard nori rolls with lots of fish and chicken options, though not a huge amount of vegetarian options. Still. Fresh, fast, and well priced, it's a good quality sushi-takeaway and lunch spot.

Approximate cost: $7-15
