Sad to say my experience was, if anything, even more frustrating and infuriating than ChristineC4’s. I took my vintage Wharfdale Dovedales in for refurbishment. The job was restoration of the cabinets and a checkout of the electronics. [Retracted name] quoted $1,000 to repair and refinish the cabinets, replace the grill cloths and probably the damping foam inside the cabinets, and replace the crossovers. He agreed that the drivers were fine. That was on September 26th. I heard nothing for a month and began trying to contact the shop to find out how things were going. Over the next several weeks I made many telephone calls and left many messages, none of which was responded to. On 4 occasions I did manage to talk to someone. Each of these conversations was reassuring although often self-contradictory. Conversation #1 – the speakers were back from the cabinet maker and [Retracted name] was working on the electronics; Conversation #2 – the speakers would be back from the cabinet makers on Wednesday and would be ready for pick up on Saturday, he would call me to confirm pick-up; Conversation #3 – the speakers were delayed at the cabinet makers but they would be back this Wednesday and ready for pick up on Saturday, he would call me to confirm pick-up; Conversation #4 – the speakers had been returned from the cabinet makers but [Retracted name] had been “unhappy with the colour matching” and sent them back. However, they would be back this Wednesday and ready for pick up on Saturday, he would call me to confirm pick-up. Following this I heard nothing for two weeks and left a couple more phone messages neither of which was responded to. Finally this Monday December 19th, twelve weeks to the day since I had left the speakers, I went down to the shop where I found the speakers on the floor completely untouched since I left them. Despite being assured by the woman in charge of the shop (neither [Retracted name] or [Retracted name] was available) that Speakerbits was the no. 1 company in the business I asked for my $200 deposit to be refunded and took my speakers home with me.
