I do not trust Cox Auto.
I bought a relatively late model car in Queensland and required a roadworthy to register the car in Victoria. Cox are directly across from where I work, so it seemed logical to take it there. The car had just over 50,000 kms on the odometer, so I was not expecting any major problems. I had a call from Cox informing me that the lower control arm bushes required replacing and that the bushes could not be bought seperately. Both control arms would need replacing at a cost of over $1600. Also an engine mount was leaking, so another charge of over $450. A four wheel alignment would be needed - $ 180 and the brake fluid had excessive moisture content - I think around another $180 to flush and renew. I was very suspicious of all of this and took it to another mechanic to confirm my suspicions.
Result, the car in the opinion of the second mechanic is without fault. The lower control arm bushes in particular are actually perfectly serviceable and certainly do not require replacement.
So Cox fleeced me for $175 and told me that if I took it elsewhere for repair and brought it back to them they would charge me the same amount again to reinspect the car. I think that this is actually illegal also. I think there is meant to be a reduced fee to confirm that the repairs have been carried out, probvided that they are done within 7 days.
I really feel they actively deceived me.
I tempted to go to consumer affairs, but I don't think a civil order is worth it... I'd probably only get my $175 back.

Approximate cost: $2200
