This review is for Andrews Second Hand, Nuriootpa SA

I have visited this second hand store quite a few times over the last few years, browsing and occasionally buying items that take my fancy.
I noticed on my latest visit this week that the place has been rearranged and appears less cluttered.
The premises are very old, but this adds to the character, and there are quite a number of rooms to browse through. There probably was almost too many items to look at, but now it appears to be less congested and arranged a bit tidier, so its easier to see things.
There still seems to be the same sort of items, from glassware, crockery, ornaments, books, records, framed pictures, furniture and other homeware items.
Prices seem reasonable and most items are in good condition.
I have recently noticed that they also have a page on Facebook, under 'Andrews Secondhand', which they regularly update with new and interesting items, including lately, some antique furniture.

This review is for The Christmas Shop, Cumberland Park SA

This place is AMAZING! If you are into the Christmas season, you will absolutely love this shop. And it is open all year, not just the run-up to Christmas.
The store is jam-packed with all sorts of Christmas decorations, ornaments, trees, lights, figurines, baubles, etc.
If you are looking for the cheap tinsel and plastic Christmas balls, then don't bother looking here, because the items sold here are nice, better quality items.
The place was packed when I was here this week (early December), as to be expected, and the staff appeared a little frazzled, with new deliveries arriving and a constant stream of people. But you have to expect the place to be busy this time of year, so hopefully people have the Christmas spirit and stay patient and understanding.
There is also another store across the road, with lights, banners, light-up trees, window lights, garden lights etc. It is part of the same business.
This is a fun place to spend some time browsing and buying some different and good-quality Christmas decorations.

Approximate cost: $2 to several hundred $'s.

This gift shop is quite amazing. There are literally thousands of gift items here. It is packed with knick-knacks, glassware, figurines, animal ornaments, jewellery items, wind chimes etc., etc.
There are items priced from a couple of dollars up to several hundred dollars, so all price ranges are covered.
They have lots of gift items that are fairly unique, I haven't seen a lot of their items anywhere else, unlike a lot of gift shops, where they all have the same range.
You can spend ages browsing in this store and if you are a collector of a certain type of ornament, or animal, you will probably find something here.
Some nice gift ideas, with a difference to other main-stream places, especially if you are looking for something a bit unique.

This review is for Dave's Work 'n' Safety Gear, Renmark SA

This store has a huge range of workwear, including fluoro safety clothing, shirts, trousers and heaps of safety footwear.
There is a corporate section where personalized uniforms can be organized.
There are also lots of other safety items like goggles, gloves, helmets, signs etc.
Well set up and plenty of room to move around and look at the range.

Lots of interesting gift ideas in this modern-style store in the main shopping area of Renmark, near the river-end of Renmark Avenue.
There are trendy kitchen accessories and gadgets, ornaments and knick-knacks for modern-decor style homes. I think this store would suit anyone looking for a gift for a young person or couple. May not appeal so much to older people.

We went to a 30th birthday party here last night. A private room was booked on the first floor. The room itself wasnt that large, but it included a balcony with tables and chairs, overlooking Rundle Street. This made it a lot more spacious, as it was a pleasant evening, and most people were out on the balcony. It was very entertaining and colourful watching the activity of Rundle Street from this private balcony area.
A private bar with barman was setup in a corner of the room, for guests only. Also a stereo for music.
I thought the drinks were very expensive, but my kids, who frequent the city haunts a lot more than their father does, assured me that the prices were quite acceptable for such a venue, so there you go!!
The pub itself and main bar area downstairs are very old, as were the staircases and corridors upstairs, but this now makes it very trendy. The front to Rundle street opens out to alfresco tables under large market umbrellas out on the street, and these areas were all packed with patrons. A DJ was setup at the back of the front bar area, so the crowd was mainly young.
The party we attended had finger-food such as chicken wings, mini pizzas, meatballs with dipping sauce etc., I assume supplied by the hotel, and it was good quality and tasty.
A great venue for this sort of event, we are older than the usual crowd, I would guess, but we still enjoyed ourselves very much.

This review is for Fisherman's Basket, Frewville SA

verified email - 02 Dec 2012

Fishermans Basket has been at this location for years and years. We hadn't been there for years, so decided to try it again on our way into the city the other night.
It used to be quite good, both food and value. But this time, we were not too impressed. We had a seafood plate for 2, at $49 for two people. We expected something fairly good for this, but were disappointed.
It was probably equivalent to what you would get at, say Barnacle Bills, for half the price. The fish was OK, but not great, prawns and calamari rings pretty average and the salad was very bland. Coarsley cut lettuce, a couple of pieces of tomato, 2 slices of cucumber, slivers of capsicum and 2 small plastic containers of tartare sauce. Chips as to be expected.
The decor is fairly dated, although we didn't find this to be a problem, because it took me back to the good-old fish cafes of a past era, 60s and 70s.
We paid $57 for meal and 2 soft drinks. Way too much for this type of eatery, compared to other similar places, in my opinion. We won't be eating here again any-time soon!

This review is for Renmark Newsagency, Renmark SA

This is a nice, open newsagent, plenty of room to move and well displayed. Owned by the same family for quite a long time, the service is friendly.
Down one side is a large selection of greeting cards, covering all occasions.
The other side has a good range of stationery, for both home use and office or business requirements.
Down the middle stands are the magazines, papers etc.
Counter down the front with lotteries agency.
The store can be entered from the main street at the front, or rear entrance from the supermarket mall and shops behind it.

This review is for Nigel's Riverview Cafe, Renmark SA

A nice cafe overlooking the grassed foreshore park and riverfront of the River Murray, which is a really pleasant view.
Located on the corner of the riverfront road, Murray Avenue, and Para Street, opposite the 2-storey Renmark Hotel.
The signs on the facade advertise the cafe as 'Renmark Riverview Cafe'.
A nice range of sandwiches, rolls, wraps etc., at reasonable prices. Can be quite busy, but staff are friendly.
A nice spot for lunch, with several tables inside, and a couple of tables on the footpath under the verandah out the front.

Yes, it really does work. We have just had our home treated for the 2nd year.
After 12 months, the 1st treatment was still killing insects, and a few days now after the second treatment, there are dead insects out on the verandahs everywhere. But the birds seem to be totally OK. It was suggested that the dog be kept away for a few hours, 'til it had settled (or dried), and no problems there either.
I am concerned about using chemicals around the home, but there is no smell or residue, and doesnt seem to affect anything, except the bugs.
We had a bad spider problem last year, but since this treatment, hardly seen one in the house, but still see them on the plants etc. in the yard, so seems to be very effective as a barrier around the house, without creating problems further away in the garden.
The manager is very friendly and the service is very good, job done as advised, on time.
And the wife is happy, so that is the most important thing!

Approximate cost: $181.00 for 3 b/room house + shed.
