I had a bad fall a little while ago and did damage to some knee ligaments. Thus began my love affair with swimming. I used to go to Zumba or Yoga, but they are off the menu for awhile...
So, I have ventured to the Adelaide Aquatic Centre a few times. It's great - I love how large it is, there is plenty of room for swimmers of all mindsets. I do, however, wish there was sometimes more lanes for the lap-swimmers. I am incredibly slow, and I feel bad taking up space sometimes!
But overall, I love the Adelaide Aquatic Centre. It's a great price for a student like me - under $7 a swim - and the place is always so clean and feels so safe!
I always love to spend my weekend here especially cold winter days where its too cold to swim during winter. The water temperature is always nice and the have good pool + diving + sauna! its always nice to have sauna after a good swim. relaxing and refreshing. Although it may be a bit crowded during weekends but the pool is big enough :) if you want to avoid those crowds, try coming during weekdays.
A good way to help keep fit
A great place to come for a swim, relax in the spa or in the sauna, or if you are a bit adventurous you can dive off the diving boards or go on the few water slides that are there. If you have the entertainment book you get 2 tickets for the price of 1, entry isn't too expensive either and always good for a day out
A good idea for when everything (nearly) is closed
I've been a member at the AAC for a while now. I'm very happy with the membership fees and the prices for once-off entry to the pools is reasonable as well. Membership includes all classes and gym which is just fantastic value.
I'm lucky enough to be able to go during office hours, so it's not too crowded and you always get the chance to get some decent laps in without having to modify your pace due to lane traffic.
The parking is plentiful and the open lawn areas are a nice spot to sit with family or after a workout. The kids pools are great, though they can get extremely crowded which can be offputting for a youngster not quite yet comfortable in the pool.
As I'm a member, I'd finally gotten access to what I'd imagined was a sumptuous and pristine members-only changeroom; marble countertops, gold tapware, complimentary shampoo/conditioner, fluffy towels and a softly spoken concierge ready to talk me through the range of spa tratments available. What I got was a dilapidated, hot, stuffy room with the tiniest shower cubicles, broken tiles and sections that are just exposed concrete, and no baby change facilities. I think it's my own fault for imagining some kind of special privileges awaited me in that member's mecca! If I'm using the pool closest the entrance I just use the public changerooms which at least are not so close and stuffy.
I'll never use the spa/sauna/steam room but I have used them before and they were fine.
One other suggestion for them would be the addition of a few more parent's rooms; it's practically impossible to wash, dry and clothe a small baby after a swim if the baby can't yet sit/stand unaided; if there was a parent's room available then mum + dad could wrangle bubs together. There is a parents room there but I've never been able to get into it....???!!!
Overall it's a great facility though and I'm happy to be a member there.
Wow, I live a short walk from AAC and was thinking of buying their membership. If that's what you get, I might just stick to the one-off prices! I do love the facilities overall though, they are great.
Took the whole family here the other week and the place is great place to pass a few hours with lots of variety for all the family. The cost for 5 of us was under $25 but was happy they now charge for locker at payment time rather than looking for spare coins. It's a central place, with great facilities and looks like they maintain the place really well.
Pros; good carparking, a number of pools to suit all needs, large changerooms, great kids pools, pretty open so doesn't get too humid, nice landscaping and good outdoor/lawned area.
Cons; decent walk to change rooms/ toilets, the spa (for adults) over looking the kids pools.
Recently done up but still a little outdated (couple of cracked tiles etc) but pretty decent place and meets the needs of a pool.
Not expensive and a good day out for the family.
Not too much seating areas around the children's pools which is a pain for parents trying to keep an eye on kids.
Lots of fun though, especially in school holidays
There are many different pools to explore here and the price is great value. However, it is always very hard to get a park if you're driving here and there is definitely not enough room inside to be comfortable as a spectator. Around the kiddie areas we could not get somewhere to sit at all.
Public areas are clean with lots of different areas for kids/people of all ages to swim in. the tiles at the bottom of the pool are always quite slippery though.
Approximate cost: $6.50
