Great customer service, great rewards, exercise their discretion under different circumstances, very professional, lots of offers for Amex credit card.

Depending on the credit card, the annual fee varies.

Approximate cost: $150

Previous to meeting my husband I had never had a American Express card, though since we married he had Amex credit cards and he gave me one which I have been using ever since, I find it easy to use, it's mostly accepted at most stores.
The American Express customer service team are friendly and willing to help eveytime.
They value us as a customer and are happy to help.

Use to have an American Express card but would never do it again. Good rewards but expensive fees and hardly accepted anywhere. Don't recommend.

Watch for the change of name. I totally concur and the ability to question stuff is near impossible

Claim some gift cards and blender from my Amex reward points last Christmas. Took 3 weeks for the gift cards to arrive because of the holidays and after a week, the blender arrived with a broken handle. Customer service advised us to return the item and it took another month for them to send us a new blender. They are really helpful on the phone but their service is just really slow.

I couldn't agree more highly, years ago Amex was the last choice, now it's by far the best, they need to control it and not let there brand name get sullied by the banks. But so far so good.

American Express cards have a very useful place in the grand scheme of things whilst sometimes in stores in Australianthey look at you like your an alien when you take your Amex card out, or they tell you there's going to be a five percent surcharge, were the card comes well and Truely into its own is with my bi annual trips to the USA. Firstly there's a very comprehensive travel insurance with the card, there's a loss and theft replacement on purchases for three months from purchase and an extended one year warranty on all electrical goods bought on the card.
But back to America the Amex card is like the ultimate card in America and you can use it for the smallest purchase in a convenience store to restaurant bills and everywhere takes Amex, it's like the opposite to Australia, but I suppose that's why it's American Express Derr. Good points I've already had over $500.00 in gifts cash rewards and they are easy to get, the whole card can be managed from the Internet. I have called the customer service centre a few times in the last 5 months and it would be fair to say they are the very best call centre I have called, Aussies who get what your saying and what you need, good sense of humours , helpful and knowledgable.
Simply Brilliant. Love my card.

Approximate cost: $35,000.00

We have an American Express EFTPOS terminal in our business. It froze last Wednesday. We rang American Express, obtained a job number & expected the new terminal by Friday. They keep telling us someone will get back to us. We're still waiting for them to ring. We've rung a number of times today (Monday), all with the same whatever attitude. We're a small business with only 1 EFTPOS terminal. We can't afford down time. We're changing companies at the 1st available opportunity. American Express charges more in EFTPOS terminal rental than other companies we've received quotes from. We've been dealing with American Express for a long time & this is the way they treat loyal customers. Every time we've rung today they've said they'll get back to us & everytime they failed to ring back withing the allotted time frame.

After the last phone call we were told they would send someone immediately. Here it is, end of the trading day on Monday, & we're still waiting.

Tuesday - another phone, was asked for call back details....AGAIN when it should all be on the system. Was told AGAIN someone would ring back.

Final result told themcome & collect their terminal because 1 of the banks would have a new 1 here Thursday.

In summary, American Express needs to teach their staff how to make outgoing telephone calls so they can respond to customer complaints, they need to stop treating customers like idiots & they need to learn how to address customers complaints.

Good company to deal with - great points system. The help centre is in Australia, and that really makes a difference to me.

The card is excellent, great rewards, good value for money (I get it free through my professional organisation), but it's unfortunate it can't be used everywhere. A visa or mastercard is really needed with it for places that don't accept it. But it's worth having the card for the rewards as the rate is higher than with Visa or Mastercards.
