Just make sure you get the right dog for your family! It’s an amazing thing to do, adopt an adult dog/cat and it can be extremely rewarding. One thing that the organisation cannot tell you for sure is the animal’s past and this will be an ongoing discovery. Training is essential, get professional help with any issues so that both you and your animal can bond - one on one training at home is also recommended.

We adopted this beautiful Kelpie X, around 3 years of age and we love her to bits! We had and still have issues but we are slowly working on those. It’s a slow but beautiful bond that we are creating. Our other dog, us, and our newby , need to find common grounds - patience is the name of the game.

What I’m saying is that it’s all worth the effort and your new adopted animal will love you forever!!!

I rescued a little girl from Moree NSW. She had been badly abused. I had previously adopted from AWL and RSPCA, but had never needed help with a dog that I had rescued. This little girl was only 18 months old when I picked her up from Moree. She was probably overwhelmed, but was just terrific on our 6 hour trip home. She settled in and met my cat and as time went by she was toilet trained, great on a lead and when off leash she would come to me immediately. She just loved being free, and I loved watching her having fun, chasing rabbits, running in the grass, leaping like a gazelle and swimming in the pond. She was in doggy heaven. Unfortunately, she just did not like me, her new mum. She slept on my bed, but during the day I would never see her, she would stay as far away from me as possible. Obviously, having had rescue babies before, I know it takes time to settle and get comfortable with your new surroundings. After about 6 months, nothing really had changed and I contacted AWL in Sydney, Gold Coast, Ipswich and Brisbane, I could not get any help from anyone. They told me that they did not have any animal behaviouralist. I tried for months to get help for this little girl and AWL’s solution was “put her down”. Dogs from Moree are damaged. I researched, I contacted everyone I could think of until I ended up contacting “Friends of the pound” at Tweed Heads. They took this little girl into their care and eventually she was adopted into a family with another dog, which is what I always thought she needed, but because I am on a pension and already had a cat, I could not afford another pet. I was totally devastated by AWL’s total lack of care for this little girl. Their representative in Moree would not return my calls. The drama went on until this little girl was 3years old. I’m just so pleased that I was able to find a group who could help me find the right home for her and not just put her down. Very sad and totally disappointed in AWL’s handling of this matter.

Don’t take your pet there for your pet sake ! They used to be ok few years ago, not anymore. We brought our cat there with abdominal pain, emergency situation($89), they took him in a back room and first verdict- we don’t know, let’s give him painkillers ($17) , verdict after blood test ($155 and they never gave us results ) - kidney failure, let’s leave him with us for 48 hours we will give him fluids, but doctor urge us that the most of kidney failure cases are lethal. After short crying we decided to take cat home not leaving him in this freezing temperatures clinic ( it’s winter and obviously clinic has no heater ) to spend his last days with us. They brought us cat back after I signed papers that I don’t think he needs what they recommended ( 48 hours fluids), cat had shaved neck ( what for?) , he was crying from pain all the way back home ( after they supposedly gave him painkillers). With help of google and chicken broth we brought cat back to his normal condition ,no one ever called from clinic to ask how is everything. Will never recommend their services to anyone!

Approximate cost: $260

I went to the Gold Coast vet clinic a few weeks ago with my cat, he was exhibiting some strange behavior and weight loss and I was recommended to these vets by a friend as I had just moved to the coast from NSW. Long story short, left waiting for over an hour. The vet was not interested in what I had brought him in for and treated him for something totally different with the promise she would research the strange behavior, no mention of his weight loss and just a lot of "I don't know" to every question I asked. Was far more expensive than I thought it would be, over $70 just for antibiotics, they gave me a 10% discount for having to wait so long past my appointment time but still the bill was over $130. The vet never rang me back, my cat continued to go down hill, spent 2 weeks trying to get through to the clinic to make an appointment, I finally got through yesterday, got an appointment, saw another vet and again, lot of "I don't know", can't to the tests here as we have run out of stuff, can't do the x-ray's the machine is in use, just leave the cat, ah no, not going to happen. I said I was not going to pay for the consult as they had done nothing for me on the last visit and not got back to me, vet gets the practice manager, she says you saw a vet, basically just give us your money, even though we have done nothing for you and made the situation worse and have no brain or diagnostic ability. I think the vets are all students and have no experience as they don't seem to know anything. My advice is they are probably fine to desex, vac etc but if it comes to anything that you need diagnostics for, go somewhere else, this place is just a money making, high turnover place.

My Rottweiler had surgery here in feb, little did I know they did out dated surgery that shouldn't be used anymore so I had to pay out all the money again for someone else to do it. Wouldn't recommend these guys to anyone. I tried to get in contact with them and they haven't responded. Very unimpressed.

Was amazed at the care factor and the facilities for the animals at AWLQ. Katie, Jacquie & Denise gave me a lot of their time showing me the facilities, answering all my questions and explaining the process of Legacy Pets & Bequests and gave me great peace of mind and made feel I have no doubts at all about leaving our fur & feathered children with them should anything happen to us. All the staff were very friendly and said Hello during my visit.

When I have taken my beloved Dog there I was very impressed with the Vets and caring staff. You couldn't ask for better Veterinary care anywhere in Australia, they have all the equipment and testing right there at the Hospital and the Vets are very professional and knowlegable. Now I wouldn't take my Dog anywhere else.
Thankyou.
