Yummy bagels. They have sesame and poppy seed as well as plain. Their pastries are delicious and I have never been disappointed
Bagels are really really good. As are the vanilla slices and other sweet treats. Inside is nothing fancy and they pack up early. So don't expect fancy decor and interiors
Everything is delicious, but their small biscuits (sold by weight), especially the filled ones, make an excellent present.
The absolute best bagels in town, and the Babkas and vanilla slice cake are just gustatory heaven. This place is a must go to for uber quality cakes and bagels.10/10 all factors considered.
I come from Mt. Eliza to buy bagels from Aviv. My absolute favourite pastry is the cottage cheese Danish. Light and delicious, my favourite cake of all.
Delicious pastries that are really good quality. Vanilla slice is great as well as the fruit flans- so good!
Aviv is good for boiled bagels, almost as good as Glick's and also their pastries. Love the Jam donuts and donuts filled with custard. Avoid if you're on a diet
Aviv's is like an institution. I love the bagels. The doughnuts here are really delicious too and the vanilla slices.
I'm glad I don't live any closer as I would be the size of a house! (-;
What can I say. I have been coming here since mid 2012 after being introduced to the delicious chocolate Israeli bubkha- and from there on it was a relationship come true!
This is, without a doubt, my favourite bakery and patisserie without Melbourne and, with the possible exception of Laurent Boulangerie, ranks as No 1. The staff are incrediably friendly and reliable. One of the female staff members no longer works there anymore- she had red hair & a thick Scottish accent- which I accidentaly mistaken for being Jewish! She was a joy to talk to but so were the other staff too. In terms of Jewish, ye there is a significant amount of Jewish pastries ie. Hamantaschen, Challah and Hannukkha donuts or sufganiyot + the bagels. Some of the best stuff you will find.
The sweets I've had so far include:
Chocolate bubkha
Coffee roudale
Fruit & strawberry tart
Donuts (both custard & jam- Hannukkha)
Vanilla slice- the BEST vanilla slice in Melbourne, if not the BEST throughout the entire world!
Flourless orange cake
Chocolate and pear sponge
Various biscuits
Jewish festive delicacies- hamantaschen, sufganiyot
Apple crumble
(Those are my favourites- there is just too many to list)
Savouries are just as good- the mushroom quiche works wonders but if you are on the run, do try the triangle pastries with potato, spinach and cheese filling. You can get all three for about $5! They also do an asparagus quiche which I will have to try at a later stage. The only downer was the just veggie pastie- (pastry was good but filling was a bit soggy).
Aside from that pastie- I strongly recommend that anyone who makes the trip to Elsternwick to try this place. You will not regret it one bit! Not me- I try and go here from uni whenever I finish at lunchtime!
You can get lots of items for just $10-20!
Simply the BEST!
Approximate cost: $10
There is no competition in Melbourne that I know of. Not even on Acland St. Aviv simply has the best quality cakes, danishes, bagels and other pastry products. The staff is courteous, some are friendlier than others but the amazing thing is their low turnover. The owners must treat their staff amazingly well which in turn results in great consistent quality of their products. Love this place!
