Aviv is my go to place for all things pastry, from their excellent bagels (steamed in the traditional way, unlike most of their competitors) which come in numerous permutations including mini-bagels, delicious creamy quiches with perfect pastry (sizes being individual, medium and large in vegetable, spinach and artichoke and mushroom) to occasion cakes of many kinds, many sold by weight. The current Swiss owners have retained many of Aviv's long time Jewish and central European favourites like rich Challah bread and Kugelhopf, but also do seasonal Christmas and Easter lines and some excellent chocolates. Prices are reasonable when you consider the high quality and top ingredients used.

This place is very popular - hence the ticket numbering system at the door during their (many) busy) periods. There are four small tables inside and a basket of magazines and newspapers for those popping in for a solo coffee and cake. Service is efficient and friendly.

My favourite items at Aviv are the excellent thinly sliced almond bread ($5 for a packet), individual chocolate mousse cake - rich and smooth, and choc dipped shortbread biscuits ($1.80) (their range of house made biscuits is excellent and they are all high quality- great gifts).

Despite their popularity, Aviv has kept up their high standards, making this small bakery my vote for best cake shop in Melbourne.

The cakes here are to die for. We had the flourless chocolate mud cake. It was absolutely sensational, best mud cake I've ever had.

The cakes are beautiful. Very specific though and they could have a broader range. The staff and atmosphere are ok but unfortunately I have found better bagels on glenhuntly road.

Best cake and bagel shop around. My mother in law introduced me to Aviv many years ago and I have not found a better place for bagels or cakes. I love their mousse cakes the most.

I went to avivs today to stock up on some yumi sweets for the Easter break. The man that served me was very friendly and helpful even tho it was super busy in there. He helped me pick out the yumiest cookies n put in a few of his favorites too, he assured me that we would love them. It was very nice to have great service.

You can't beat their quiches. Have bought for lunches and parties. The massive coffee and almond meringues are divine - you can turn these in to a modern version of Eaton Mess by crushing and serving with whipped cream and raspberries. Have also had their flourless chocolate cake which they offered to put a message on (for free) and did on the spot.
