Eaten here occasionally over the years, not more often because it just doesn't inspire. The food is really nice, but the vibe is not so good. Would also like to see more attention to glassware, etc. Tending to a little tacky. Last time we were the only occupied table for most of the evening; eventually one other couple came in soon before we left.

Would not waste time or money. Tiny serves, and very expensive. As a last resort, go the take away from here. Don't have to face the dirty sour faced staff, and you get a bigger serve, and the rice isn't as expensive.... go figure!

I am sad to read this review as I am a regular at Basera! The staff are always extremely friendly with us, even on first name basis. We usually get takeaway, and I would probably recommend this option, but when we have eaten in it has been fine. The portions we get are pretty standard, but we always manage to share 3 mains very very easily between 4 people. The rice is pretty averagely priced also compared to other Indian restaurants in the area (unfortunately I find rice is always over priced for what it is). I would urge you to try the takeaway another time from here, maybe they were just having a bad night?

We have been frequenting Basera since it opened about 5 yrs ago. The service is generally very average so we only do take out now. The prices are more than other places nearby (ie in Boronia), but the quality of the food is sooooo much better! We have been to other restaurants to try them out, but we always come back to this one. The Lamb DoPiaza, and Chicken Saag are beyond compare. If you go.....con't expect excellent service, but do expect fantastic food.

The food is exceptional, the staff are really nice and very helpful, but most of all
it is small and intimate, very cozy,it is nice to find a place in the outer suburbs
with these qualities.

I can't belive people actually go to this restaurant. There is simply no value for money here what so ever. The fact that they charge $8.00 for a small bowl of rice really is disgusting. Indian Cuisine is generally fantastic value but this place serves their meals in the tiniest of tiny dishes and their vegetarian meals are priced the same as their meat at $17.00...it's a pure rip off!
Save your cash and don't eat here!

(As for the person stating they use "traditional ingredients" therefore have a right to charge more?? For gods sake, it costs $11.00 for a 5kg bag of rice at the Indian Supermarket and the prices at the Indian Supermarkets are fantastic, much cheaper than any Coles or Safeway! AND I bet they do even better deals for restaurants, so don't give me that. This place is a pure rip off. )

$8 for a bowl of rice is criminal!! four pieces of meat if your lucky in a shallow dish... The flavours are nice. But prices and service disgusting. Im Indian and know a good traditional restaurant when I see one! And lady that serves is extremely rude. These are the prices you would pay for a 5 star restaurant in the city. Not a dingy restaurant near FTG station.

I have been there only once. At in. The food was okay. Used nice fresh ingredience. However cost ~50 for two people for two dishes, 1 nan, 1 rice and 2 mango lassis. I used to live in the city, so by city standards this resturant is less than average. For what I paid I would expect to be blown away when we didn't order so much. Maybe they don't do vegetarian options well. for example One dish was a about 6 x 1cm square cottage cheeses in a thick tomato sauce no veges for ~$15, tiny bowl. What a rip off. Though I can't find a decent resturant in the burbs, so I guess it is all relative.

If you think it's pricy, you've got to be joking =P perhaps compared to the city, yes.. But considering that this is one of the only (good) indian resturants around that area, they're allowed to charge whatever they want! But the thing is, they don't. I've been there at least 10 times now with my family, and every time it's been extremely cheap and you get huge portions (i have no idea what happened with your food, maybe you just eat a lot haha). But two main dishes is EASILY enough for three people. The thing that will get you on price though are the entres or starters, they're cheap but if you get a few for each person the money starts to add up..

Also, they use traditional ingredients - a lot of which they actually have to go out of their way to find because supermarkets don't stock them.

I was just stating the facts!! It was expensive for what we got. Even for the burbs. Maybe things work out cheaper if you have a large group and you share, maybe they don't do vegetarian very well, I don't know. Just stating my objective experience.

I would rather go to the Thai resturant down the road or pehaps I will go to captain americas next door. next time.

The best Indian food I have ever eaten! I think it's a family business. The service is very speedy even in busy times and extremely friendly! The food is very traditional and they take a lot of pride in what they are serving to you. They were also recommended by The Age Epicure - Best of Indian 2007.

Approximate cost: $12.00
