My husband booked this over the phone (as we had to check something) after looking at the website. The receptionist strangely charged us more than what was on their website, although my husband could not remember the price at the time.

The pool was nice, although cool. The decor in the room was nice and fairly modern. The bathroom and entry floors were greasy, making the floor slippery when wet. When I mentioned this to the receptionist, he said the cleaners would look at it, but they did not improve. I suspect the cleaning products are a bit greasy but I'm not sure.

Overall a nice place to stay, a little out of town.

I love staying at the Macquarie Barracks. I wouldn't consider anywhere else. I love their restaurant and their swimming pool is great for kids with a really large shallow step. Plus I get Fly Buys Points.

We've stayed here twice, once 8 years ago, and once just this January past. Pleasant rooms, easy parking, not too much traffic noise from the road, a lovely pool (was beautifully warm!), friendly staff (though they are fallible, as the restaurant in the hotel was closed for public holiday, we were told to try the pub down the road for dinner, but it was closed too so we had to walk back, drive into town and try to find somewhere else to eat). The spa suite was particularly lovely – beautiful pristine bath and bathroom, though I do agree with previous reviewer about the bed (but what non 5 star hotels these days really do give you a king bed and not 2 singles pushed together?). Continental breakfast was tasty but the kitchen seemed a little slow to replace some popular items (eg pastries).

What a major disappointment. For a 4 star hotel there is a lot of room for improvement. The room was clean and tidy which was good to see as that is very important however everything else was a let down.
The bed was as hard as a rock. Advertised as the Deluxe Spa room there was nothing deluxe about it. The King sized bed was in fact 2 singles pushed together which meant whenever I wanted to roll over to hug my partner I had to get past the hard rise and ditch of the bed edging in the middle.
The room was advertised as having either a balcony or garden, but i did not get either. Instead I got a fenced in courtyard which fit a table and 2 chairs and not much else. The attempt at privacy meant that the colourbond fence was so high I felt like I was in a prison cell, but this did not help as guests walking along the top balcony could see right into the 'patio' and right into the hotel room - therefore I had to keep the curtains closed for any semblance of privacy.
The 2 'deluxe spa rooms' also appear as a takced-on later addition to the hotel. The rooms were at the end of the car park at the very front of the property and with the noise of the nearby major road it felt like we were sleeping in the middle of Hastings River Drive.
I don't know what the other rooms are like but imagine that they would be a lot better than the two spa rooms.
If I was in a better mood I would have argued with reception to be refunded for the false information about the balcony/garden however I just could not be bothered after such a terrible nights sleep.
I certainly would not recommend the Spa Rooms to my friends, family or anyone.

Approximate cost: $170

Hi Missm30s, thanks for your detailed review. It is so very disappointing when businesses use such blatant ‘false advertising’ techniques to lure unsuspecting consumers into their establishment. As per your personal experience, we were gob-smacked with the (single) beds that we amateurishly ‘pushed’ together, much like children having a sleepover. In addition to this, paying for services/goods not rendered (the elusive balcony/garden) is appalling to say the very least. As for the failed attempt at privacy, we too would have been uncomfortable with this, as we assume many would be. One would think that the business in question would show some semblance of common sense and comprehend that such blatant dishonesty will (in many instances) only lead to disappointment, which would progress to ‘negative’ reviews and failure to rebook in the future. Thanks for the heads-up! Reeces

I regularly stay at this motel on business trips. Each time I stay here I find the service consistently friendly and courteous. The rooms are always well presented with extremely comfortable beds. The service offered by Keiran in the restaurant is impeccable. She is always cheerful and friendly, greeting patrons courteously and with a warming smile. I thoroughly recommend this motel to all and sundry.
