10 reviews about Biba Salon Fitzroy

James is my new hair husband

It is with good reason that I am more scared of the hairdresser than the dentist. Several times I've left a hair salon in shock, burst into tears and wondered why I paid them.
Now that my hair is turning coarse I'm even more nervous, particularly when contemplating a new style.
However I totally cracked the shits yesterday and decided to cut off my long, ummanageable hair and based on reviews I'd seen online and due to the fact that they're like 10 minutes from my work I decided to give James at Biba on Gertrude St a go.
I am now a bonded customer. James made perfect suggestions, genuinely listened to what I wanted and delivered at a price that didn't make me want to vomit. And did so without inane small talk or the sort of sniping bitchiness I've experienced in other salons. I wish there were more than 5 stars to give.

James at Biba Gertrude St Fitzroy is an absolute Godsend! I was unhappy with my previous hairdresser at another salon and he was recommended by a friend. My hair had too many foils, needed too much maintenance for regrowth and I looked so washed out. James took the time to speak to me about the result I wanted, what he could do and gave me a price breakdown before commencing. I now have warmth back in my face, the cut and colour are amazing and my hair is in such better condition now. I am incredibly happy with his work and highly recommend James as not only a colour specialist but a superb hairdresser.

I was having a terrible day when I stepped into Biba Gertrude street, and it got worse after my cut.

I'd had a reaally, really bad cut a few months before and my hair was many different lengths, lopsided and frayed.

My previous experiences with Biba salons had been amazing; even the academies have the most awesome students who give you a better cut than some Directors here in Adelaide!

But the woman who cut my hair seemed to take one look at it and put it in the too-hard basket. She gave it a rudimentary trim, didn't even try to address the lopsidedness (it was still uneven until I got it re-cut only 4 weeks later, after being too exasperated to wait the usual 6) blowdried it badly and then sent me on my way.

Oh yeah, and she actually tried to sell me a fitting for my blow drier that I told her wouldn't fit in my suitcase (I was on a work trip, coming back to Adelaide).

I can't believe it cost me around $85.00.

I would give this salon a miss, but visit one of the other Bibas -they are still amazing and have really great teams!

I have very fine straight hair that is hard to do anything with. I loved the haircut that they suggested here and after 4 weeks it is easy to style and manage. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable

My hairdresser seemed very inexperienced, was clumsy with scissors and comb, was very slow, had no personal skills, gave a poor shampoo, and even his attempt to upsell me on products was clumsy. If he was inexperienced there was no one there mentoring him or offering to step in to address the poor haircut he gave me. My biggest amazement was the $75 bill at the end! For a men's haiircut! From a novice! They were taking the piss. My partner was scheduled for a cut after mine, I strongly recommended she cancel and she has now re-booked at Heading Out, where I could have got their senior stylist and still saved myself 3 bucks. DO NOT GO HERE!!!

Mariam listened to what I was wanting then offered advice and then she gave me a really good haircut. Having curly hair I am having real difficulty getting a decent cut. My haircut looked good for 4-5 weeks afterwards and I had several compliments. I am going back again this week , plus they offered me a $20 voucher off my next cut.

After numerous bad experiences, I was looking for a hairdresser who could do something with my fine, flyaway curly hair. Mariam at Biba in Gertrude St was recommended and she has been GREAT! She talked me through what I wanted, kept checking throughout the process and then showed me how to style it too. I returned recently for my second cut with Mariam and I'm just as happy. My hair is looking healthy, the curl looks amazing, the cut is edgy but easy to style and I'm getting lots of compliments! Mariam - you ROCK!

My hair had grown long and I wasn't sure about whether to go short, medium or stay long. Mariam was very consultative and took the time to help me work out what I wanted. I have curly hair, and alot of stylists really don't know how to handle it, but at Biba I have got a really funky cut at a decent price. The number of compliments I've received since is certainly a testament to the quality of the cut.

I had no idea what to do with my hair as another Hairdresser damaged my hair really BAD!!!. So.............
I went to Biba Hairdressing and let me tell you! I have never looked so good! It's as simple as calling up and asking Jens to do your color. He is by far the best colorist I have EVER dealt with. Simply amazing at what he does with your hair. A true Professional!!!

Approximate cost: $120.00
