DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE. Very Bad. My car went in with many issues to fix and was advised my car was in good hands.. When returned later to collect the car, it had not been fixed, found this out after paying a fortune.. Car had more issues after being in their care including a dent. Complained with multiple staff and mechanic, was spoken too very sarcastic and they refused to fix or help.

I had a problem with the manual gearbox in my in my astra, {very stiff to change gears} The mobile mechanic I had been using guessed it was a fault in the linkage mechanism and quoted me approx $450.00 plus labor.for this misdiagnosis I was charged $180.00. Long story short.Took car to Gallenhawks, George listen to my story and said Id try changing the oil in the gear box. An hr later I drove away with smooth gear change!! Computers, diagnostic equipment and smooth talk are no substitute for common sense and experience...Could not speak highly enough of this establishment, Cost of all this $95

Approximate cost: $95.

Best service station and service I have ever come across. EVER!

George helped me get back on the road on a WEEKEND when every other place in town was closed and I needed to get back to work following our family holiday in Hervey Bay. I was expecting to have to wait until Monday or pay massive overtime rates to get the car going and to get back to Brisbane.

I rang the local auto parts shops and was told ‘there is only one person open you'll find open on weekends in town and its George at Gallehawks'.

George looked and listened at my car without any prior notice – then said leave her (car) here for 2-3 hours as he had other jobs to do and I'll give you a call when it's ready. He knew just by listening to the noise what it was and gave me an estimate on the spot. No hesitation he said he'd get my family back on the road today – keep in mind I'm a complete stranger that's never been in there before…

The hourly rate was spot on (I had to ask twice to check it was weekend rates – as it was cheaper than some mechanics I've been to in Brisbane on a weekday). The $200-$250 estimate ended up being a $180 bill – in my experience it's usually the other way around when they find ‘extras' that need repairing or charge way more just because they know you're in a bind. No BS from this guy , straight up with the charges and explained the whole repair process – I would have paid triple considering it saved me two nights' accommodation and got me back to work on time.

Guess that's why he said he's been in the business for nearly 30 years.

Good old fashioned, honest service that you just don't find today - especially when dealing with cars.

Approximate cost: $180

I went into Gallehawks just last week as I required a road worthy for my car. They had originally told me that I would have to wait a week to get this done, but when I asked if it could be done on Saturday, George said he would do it. He was fast and efficient however when I went to pick up the car, they tried to charge me more than I had been quoted. When asking why this was, I was told he charged more on a weekend. Shame I was not told this when I booked in and was quoted.

I had a problem with a squeakling noise in my brakes. Two mechanics said my brake pads didn't need replacing, but the pads are smooth which is causing the noise. The first mechanic said it would cost $180 to "rub them on the concrete and rough them up". I went and saw George straight after the other mechanic and he said he will "machine the pads" and charge $90. George was efficient, nice and didn't cheat me. Most mechanics see a woman as a target and think "money money money". George even gave me a lift to Meals on Wheels to help ut there whilst the car was being fixed. I got a text message it was ready and there wasn't a rude shock with the bill, exactly what George said. George said if he found anything else, he would call me to discuss before doing the work. Will go there again.

Approximate cost: $90
