Whilst the ambience and surrounding scenery was absolutely spectacular, I attended my Brother & Sister In-Law's wedding yesterday and was shocked by both the poor level of customer service displayed by the staff, and the quality of the food.

There are no EFTPOS or ATM facilities on-site, one of the waiters was wearing "Quiksilver" branded casual pants (at a formal medieval themed wedding), and the bartender had no clue what I was talking about when I approached the bar and ordered my wife a "Lemon, Lime & Bitters". We just gave up and settled for a can of Lemonade instead.

Unfortunately I would like to say this was the end of the negative, but I have not yet started talking about the food. I would hate to think what my family paid per head, when the Entree consisted of 4 squares of Ravioli with a dabble of tomato sauce, and the Main consisted of a piece of Steak (no garnish), and a dollop of plain Mash Potato. Zero effort for presentation. There were vegetables, albeit a small serving to share between three. Thank God gravy was supplied, as it was needed to get through the tough and over-cooked steak. Bread rolls were supplied before appearance of the Entree, however, the bread was very stale and perhaps only hours from going bad. I've had better meals at rough suburban pubs, and I'm not a fussy eater by any means.

We did have a splendid afternoon and evening, but this had more to do with the fact that we were celebrating such a special occasion, surrounded by family and friends. The DJ did have a great selection of music and a fun time was had by all, but I can't in good conscience recommend this establishment to any prospective visitors, based on my experience.

What a disappointment with the food.

Thanks for this well written review, sorry it was so disappointing. Who doesn't know what 'lemon, lime & bitters' is , ridiculous!

We've been here for very different functions, both a wedding, and our daughter's birthday party. The food is wonderful but it's the service that is truly special. Nothing is overlooked and we will certainly come here again and again.

We booked camelot castle for our wedding and are from interstate. When we went to look at it, nothing was too much trouble. We were promised EVERYTHING would be taken care of, and it was smiles all round.

Since we departed with our deposit, its descending in to wedding hell.

The venue is owned by an elderly couple who have run camelot for 40 years or so. The husband is lovely, but over run by his wife who has pushed me to breaking point. We asked them to book out/ hold all 12 rooms at the castle (56 beds) so that our interstate and overseas guests can stay at the castle with us. This was no problem. BUT - what they failed to tell me was that I had to handle all of the room bookings (WTF?)

They didn't tell me, and my invitations went out with an info sheet recommending the castle, and all of their contact details etc on there so that our guests could book if they wanted. Our guests began to call the castle to book and that was where the problems began.

The female owner refused to book our guests in. She told them it was booked out. I called her in a panic wondering how it could be booked out and she said "YOU BOOKED IT, so we cant book anyone in". After much back and forth she finally admitted that she didn't want to handle the bookings.

I explained to her that she had not told us we were required to do it and that the invites had gone out already. I said that it made sense for them to book it anyway as they understand how many beds are in each room (as they vary) and also they need to know how many people are staying to arrange breakfast and billing. After much discussion she agreed to book the rooms for me and I thought it was resolved.

Since then, 4 people have tried to book a room. She has refused to do it, lied to them and said there was no availability, been rude to them and put down the phone. Each time i have had to ring SA from NSW to talk this out with her and she is playing games with me. She put the phone on the counter and walked away while I was talking and left me hanging there, twice. She stated she would do the bookings but "can't guarantee she will get the bookings right" - threatening us. In the end, her husband took over the call because i was nearly in tears.

He promised me that if my guests ring and ask for him, he will fix it up. But when his wife answers the phone, and the guest says they are wanting to book for our wedding, she now plays games.

I have emailed them twice with a copy of our "contract", and a chronology of all conversations and so on. I have sent them links of the ACCC and Dept of business and consumer affairs but this woman just doesn't care.

Im so worried about my wedding day now, but like i said, the invites have gone out, there is no changing it now.

My recommendation? Camelot Castle is a beautiful place but if you are going to book it, make sure every requirement is in writing, ask more questions than you should be required to and have a plan B just in case.

Words cannot express how much Camelot Castle means to me. It truly is such a special place and thanks to Simone and Hans we are very lucky to have a place like that in Adelaide. I have been going to Camelot Castle for 18 years and have enjoyed every single time. The owners Simone and Hans make you feel at home in a very relaxed cozy environment, they make me feel like part of their family. I love to dine at Camelot Castle, in winter it is so romantic to have a dinner for two, sitting on medieval king and queen thrones next to a fireplace. The food is fantastic. Simone caters to your needs. I have taken quite a number of friends and family members there over the years and they all love it. I have shared so many special occasions there, 21st, anniversaries etc. Simone is unbelievable she bends over backwards to make it special and gives complimentary things on occasions eg cake, wine, cigar or some port (please dont go in there expecting this)

On weekends there is always a function on eg wedding so its normally a lot busier so dont expect to be served quickly, enjoy the atmosphere/views and relax as it is truly a unique place and Simon and Hans are extremly busy and do most of the things themselves. If there is a wedding you may even get the option of having the wedding banquet eg medieval banquet, so much food fit for a king! I have also enjoyed staying there overnight. Everytime we travel to Camelot I never want to leave so its always pleasant to stay the night and enjoy room with a spa.

They always puts on a great feast. If we drive through the hills in the afternoon for a tea, Simone is always willing to cook something up for lunch or afternoon tea. The value for money is so unbelievable, the service and price/location/atmosphere you cannot get from any where else. You should compare it to Thorngrave Manor Inn which is another beautiful castle, however as its on the luxury hotel list you can pay $1000 a night for accommodation compared to Camelot which is under $200 a night! I cannot rave enough about this place, you have to go and see for yourelf to understand what I mean. I was sad to see the place is for Sale even though I understand their reasons for wanting to sell. I know that if someone else was to buy it the price would go up at least 4 times (food and accomodation) and there is no way that you would get the service that Hans and Simone provide. They are such beautiful people and put their heart and soul into everything and have been doing so for sooo many years, I dont know how they do it, they are such hard workers and put their hands into everything eg cooking, waiting, arranging functions, renovating, gardening, maintaining accommodation etc. Such a special place that words cannot express :)

We lunched at the spectacular medieval Camelot Castle on a Sunday (5 of us) and again (3 of us) on the following Thursday. On both occasions we were impressed by the quality of the food and the very friendly service. Simone takes great care, beyond the call of duty, to prepare according to the diners' taste, and, on a birthday occasion she made wonderful special efforts in providing flowers and a birthday cake, without even being asked. The price was not inflated for these. She is clearly a real enthusiast for providing enjoyable dining. There is a good variety of interesting dishes, served with imagination and style but not showiness. Her husband Hans, who adds good humour on occasion, continues to extend the amazing castle stone by stone. A thoroughly enjoyable dining and visiting experience. It is possible that on other occasions, when there would be large groups, the meal delivery might be slower than the prompt service we found.

I can't give enough praise to this place. We had our wedding there last year. We chose it because it allowed us to have our ceremony, photos, reception and accommodation all in the one place without running around all over town, and inconveniencing our guests. It was also the height of summer, and the Adelaide Hills are always a few degrees cooler on a 35 degree day! The grounds of Camelot are immaculate - perfect for photos. The chapel is unique and lovely, and when you get married there, you get a permanent plaque put up inside the chapel to commemorate your wedding. The food was fantastic and there was plenty of it. There were also a lot of extras they organised for us - the decorations and flowers and candles they put out without us having to arrange it with them, a German congratulations song they sang while they brought out a plate of food covered in sparklers, and all the personalised service. Our accommodation was really nice and very affordable. It really is like being a guest in a castle!
