My eldest son unfortunately needed extensive dental work, and after a trip to the local community dentist, we decided to see a specialist paediatric dentist for a second opinion and to see if we could make the experience a little more pleasant, to set up good dental habits for life.
We see Dr Anu, and she has taken the time to make my son feel at ease. He ended up having surgery under general anaesthetic, which was VERY costly at approx. $5000, compared to $35 at the community dentist for basic treatment under local, but at least now I know the work has been done properly.
The waiting room is beautifully set up for children (as you would expect), with gaming consoles and plenty of toys.
Highly recommend this practice if you have nervous children!

My son had problems with his teeth and had had a couple of stressful experiences at our local dentist, and said he was never going back to the dentist. Our local guy referred us to Dr Mala, and it took almost a year before my son would agree to go - and we have now been 6 times in a couple of months, and he has had surgery to fix most of his problems, and he LOVES going to this dentist surgery.

She has playstations and other toys in the waiting room for the kids, and parents can make tea or coffee while they wait. The staff are all friendly and polite and treat you like a guest, not a patient. The kids can watch movies while they are in the chair, and the nurse and dentist talk to the parent and child before they start work, then concentrate on the work while the child watches the movie, then pop into another room with the parent to discuss what needs to be done next. After the treatment, the Dr takes you to the front desk and explains to reception what kind of appointments you need next, and your child can select a toy to take home.

My son and I feel more comfortable at this practice than any other medical establishment I've ever been to.

We have been to a few dentists around town and are so glad we found Dr Mala Desai. Our child does require a fair bit of dental work. All the other dentists we visited told us bits and pieces - perhaps what we wanted to hear. Dr Desai very patiently explained all the options which summarised all the bits and pieces we heard from other dentists in clear and simple terms. Her chair side manner was excellent and now our son does not want to go anywhere but Children's Dentistry in Balwyn! We are happy and so is our son. I would most highly recommend Dr Mala and her team.

I have never been to a place as fantastic as this. My husband and I both wished we had a Dentist like Dr Mala to visit. Our two kids call the place "Disneyland". The place is superbly geared to manage kids. Dr Mala is incredibly competent and she explained everything beautifully. We have finally found a great Dentist for our kids and are incredibly happy with the treatment. Cannot make a higher recommendation!

i took my son to Dr.Mala Desai and was told that he had to have quit alot of work done and it would be done in hospital under general anaesthetic! I was shocked and took him to another paediatric dentist for a second opinion, and was shocked that half of the work that i was told that needed to be done by Dr.Desai actually did'nt!!!I was so dissapointed and would have been ripped off! Apparantly this is common at this dental practice, and alot of work is being done that is not needed and more so since building her beautiful new surgery.This is not on and i would not reccomend this dentist.

We've been with Dr Mala for a few years and found her to be an excellent pediatric dentist who makes going to the dentist a pleasant experience for kids. The place is set up to be child friendly with videos to watch as the dentist works on their teeth. No more tears over going to the dentist. Dr Mala is amazing and has fixed and saved teeth no other dentist could. It costs a fair bit but I find the money well spent cos teeth, esp permanent teeth, once they are gone are quite irreplaceable.
