Amazing food and service - will definitely return with the hubby and kids. We got a text when our table was ready and the food was to die for. Asian fusion dishes were so flavoursome and the staff were hilarious. Definitely worth the wait and worth the travel to the city!

If you're seeking Thai Fusion with fusion enough to give your tastebuds a spark, this is the place to go.

We booked a table of 12 persons (they have one table you can book each night) and paid a flat rate of $66 per head. To some this might seem a bit steep, however they pick the highlights of the night based on what's on offer and they make sure that you don't need to visit your local Mc Donald's or souvlaki hut on the way home.

I've been twice now with a table of twelve and under this method, there's no waiting, just walk straight in - especially on a Saturday night.

The dishes on each night were different, although we did order some repeat offenders due to the popularity of the dishes from the first visit.

Some of the dishes guest most liked included
- kingfish with lime sashimi
- wagyu beef pad see yeu
- rendang beef
- wild barramundi in banana leaf
- crab cakes

At each sitting we went through about 12 courses and found all of them had a slight twist (in a tasty way!) on traditional Thai or neighboring countries dishes.

Service as many have experienced was a bit hit and miss, on the first night we had our waitress constantly come back to make sure everything was okay, on the second visit, we found that our waiter disappeared and only came round when our dishes were to be delivered. The way around this was to just flag someone else down and have them attend to us!

Overall whilst the service is average to good, we found the food of a high quality and well balanced for fusing the best of east meets west, or South East Asian meets Aussie flavors head on.

Recommended provided you don't mind the $66 rate, which is actually good value considering all the dishes we received. If you've been before, the best way is to speak to your waiter and ask them about dishes you would like to try and they can help you mix and match depending on your guest's likes and dislikes.

Food was good not to die for, but I don't appreciate being seen by a waiter when I have my hand up wanting to order and he walks away. Not sure why people wait for an hour to eat here. But in my opinion it's not worth the wait.

Took the missus out for dinner at Chin Chin, it was recommended by a friend who said it was really good.

Firstly the staff are by far one of the friendly bunches i have come across in a restaurant. And the range of dishes on the menu was amazing! Food was on the table within 20 minutes of ordering and the quality of the food was perfect.

Highly Recommend!

We had a great experience at Chin Chin. Everything was made so easy by the great staff.

We were told there was quite a long wait (1 - 1.5 hours) but we were able to leave our mobile phone number and go downstairs to the bar while we waited for them to text us that our table was ready. EASY

The bar wasn't just a sit and wait for your table room. It was a great spot to kick back, relax have a few drinks and a chat (and even some finger food) while we waited. It made the wait fly by. Once again, the staff in the downstairs bar were excellent. They found a couch for us, provided table service and even suggested a beer we might like. They really took an interest in our group.

Once we were seated the food didn't take long at all and it was delicious. The service again was above and beyond by the staff, making great suggestions and explaining each dish as it came out to us. It's these small things that make a good experience into a great experience.

I would highly recommend Chin Chin to anyone looking for a fun night out in a bustling, fun exciting restaurant/bar. Keep in mind, you will need a few dollars to spend but it's worth every penny.

After a whole lotta talk about Chin Chins, my hubby and I finally decided to go for lunch last week. Out of our 2 entrees, one was outstanding (Green Beans) and the other was just okay (Corn Fritters). Of our mains, mine was brilliant (Yellow Curry) and hubby's was good, but a little on the sweet side (Beef Massaman). The roti bread was coked perfectly - was huge & well priced at $4. Overall, we were impressed - it was a good experience, but not the best. Nothing to knock our socks off, be definitely worth going to if you're in Flinders Lane and have a hankering for Thai/Indian! Decided to give Chin Chin a go when I visited Melbourne with my family and we arrived early for lunch around 11ish and there were no queue!! Yay..

We were seated by friendly staff by the window near the entrance. Love the menu and the atmosphere but I think it would have been a lot better if it was crowded and after work, buzzing with the crown.

What we ordered, the kingfish sashimi with basil, lime etc it was so refreshing and fresh with a hint of coconut. It was absolute delish! Caramelised pork belly, what can go wrong with this dish.

I wish I could go back there, maybe when I visit Melbourne again one day :)

Definitely highly recommend Chin Chin!

Our absolute favorite restaurant in Melbourne. Super funky atmosphere and service. Always full of a very hip crowd.

You can't book, which is a pain. If you go during peak hours such as Friday or Saturday night you will probably have to wait for about 1-2 hours, so we don't bother going on these nights anymore.

But the food is amazing. Evey single dish is delicious, and we've tried pretty much the entire menu of the last few years.

Chin Chin is a bistro serving thai fusion to those that live and work in upper Collins St. The dishes which they serve and ingredients used are faultless. However, this alone is not enough to make it worth returning to, as a result of all the other baggage that accompanies the experience.
1. Getting a table means making a booking and having everyone arrive on time to order within 15mins. Otherwise you can expect to queue for at least 20mins
2. The noise and acoustics. Some people would say authentic and vibrant atmosphere. Unfortunately, vibrancy is more in volume levels than vibrant energy
3. Bland menu. The food is good, good quality ingredients are used. But the menu is boring and servings are tiny. This is not an ultimate sin, but comparatively this makes other places like Cookie more desirable.
4. Service and surroundings not befitting the 'bistro' bracket. If wanted to have fusion thai in a bistro setting, i'd go to Gingerboy for a nicer setting, better service, un-rushed atmosphere and all round more pleasant experience for roughly the same credit card bill.

Hi Rosep1, your experience appears to be at odds with a great many others. While we donĂ¢??t have an issue with the businesses request for punctuality (as this is merely insisting on basic manners), we do however take issue with the noise and hustle and bustle. Thanks for your other recommendations. Regards, Reeces

Came to Chin Chin on a visit to Melbourne with a friend. It was packed to the rim even at 11pm when we arrived. Food was fresh and good quality. Food was served up quickly too. Menu had good variety to suit most tastebuds. If all else fails, there is a "Feed Me" option for $66pp and Chin Chin will whip up a selection of their favourites.
Ordered the Papaya Salad - if you are into spicy, this will knock your socks off. Right balance of flavours but may be too spicy for most. The barbecue pork was delicious. Service was attentive despite the crowd.
Would definitely be back to try other dishes.
