This tiny thai restaurant offers the best taste of thai food you may experience. You might be surprised as the price is reasonable but the food is scrumptious, more than any 5star thai restaurant in Australia.

Great place for simple yet fantastic thai. Consistent.
They are generous on the portion sizes. Do not skimp on the vegetables or meat (some places just load on the carbs). The components are just right. I especially appreciate the careful balance of flavours, spices and seasonings.

This is my choice of place for a quick meal. They are generally fast and the food quality they serve are very consistent. The food is tasty and good.

Derby Thai has been with Monarch Uni students for many years, providing quick cheap Thai food with reasonably priced. My experience with this Thai joint is good.

My favorite dish here is chicken cashew stir fry. The dining room is quite tiny so it could be a little squashy during lunch time and after class in the evening. They also have got another branch in St.Kilda too but I like this one better. To sum up, Derby Thai is suitable for all students because the food price is so cheap and good valued. Go check them out, it could become your everyday lunch if you really love Thai food.

Usually when I am around Caulfield area I would go to other restaurants and never thought of going into this place. But recently a friend of mine kept talking about how good their duck fried rice is so I decided to have a try. The fried rice was actually quite greasy and there were very little duck meat. My friend was disappointed when I told her it didn't taste as good as she described. She ordered pad thai that day and I tried it, it was quite decent- better than the duck fried rice in my opinion. The servings are quite generous and I was not able to finish my meal due to the large size and oilyness.

a nice thai place for a casual meal if you are a local. Food is good and at a reasonable price. near to the uni, tram, bus and railway station and caulfield plaza. Some times it can be noisy and busy so plan your time to visit wisely if you want a quieter time.

My Previous Review was :-
"One of the better takeaway joints. I dont mind eating in either. Food is fresh and tasty, Prices are good value. I always go for their number 32(pad thai) or number 36, sometimes spring roles (the sweet chili sauce with it is divine)."
My UPDATED Review is:

"I have been going there for Eight years. No more I say. I for one get completely disgusted when I find hair in my food.
I have had three incidents over the past year and half where I was served hair with my food. After the second time, I brought the issue to the owner's notice and suggested that cooks should atleast wear caps and cover their head. He promised nothing, said it has never happened and they continued cooking with uncovered head.
It happened for the third time last week at which I brought it to the waitress's attention (owner wasn't around). She didn't apologize (although offered the dish to be made again) at which I decided to walk off for good and write this review.
Thing to note is that these incidents have only started to happen when their old cook, the mature aged thai (presumably) lady handed the kitchen to the two guys who cook these days. Seems like the glory days are behind them.
The tough job now is to find a suitable alternative. Paradai Thai seems worthy."
Stay Away.

Its a very little joint at near Monash University in Caulfield. The concept is more towards takeaway and they even have a cheaper price for takeaways instead of dining in. Their food is exceptionally delicious, especially the pad thai and the curries. It kept me going back for more. Also very efficient, approximately a 5 minute wait for 2 takeaway dishes. Highly recommended. Yet to go back for their other dishes.

This place made me fall in love with Thai food. Just around the corner from Monash Uni. I absolutely love their green curry. Have never had a bad meal there. It is small inside but fine decor if you ask me. Nothing flash but it is not so much a restaurant but more a take away.

Derby Thai is always fast and reliable. It's great to swing by and pickup takeaway on your way home. I wouldn't eat in because the decor is quite tacky and the chairs are cheap and uncomfortable. I think they could afford to clean up the place a bit and attract more diners.

Approximate cost: $10
