This review is for Ped's Kafe, Malvern East VIC

verified email - 15 Dec 2012

We're used to have breakfast at Ped's but now they are only doing seven dinners. For my it's OK because the quality of food and service is still the same. This is another Thai joint that you can get a really good "Pad Thai" IMO. The Golden bite is my favorite entree. It's really crunchy and delicious. Moreover, food presentation here is really awesome for the price you pay for.

The service is really friendly and attentive. They even tell us how to eat their food in the way Thais do. That's really cool.

The only let down for me is that they do not do lunch anymore so it makes me miss my Thai beef steak sandwich so much.
My overall experience at Ped's Kafe is really positive and would recommend anybody to check them out. My advice for you guys is to make a booking because they' re always packed (that means they're really good right)

This review is for Paradai Thai Restaurant, Carnegie VIC

verified email - 15 Dec 2012

When it comes to "Thai food" and "cheap eat", Paradai Thai is on the top of my list. The food here is really reasonably priced and the portion size is quite huge and most importantly it's very tasty. I love "the red duck curry" and "Pad Thai" here. Believe it or not it's really hard to find a good "Pad Thai" in Melbourne but Paradai produces one of the best of this iconic Thai dish...at least in my book.
Their service however could be way too slow, especially when it's packed. You would find it hard to get their attention sometimes but from what I observe, I think all the girls work really hard and deserve some compliments about that.
To sum up, we still remain their regular customers because they are so good. My family this day go to Paradai on Mondays to avoid any food delay and any disappointments.

This review is for Cumin Thai, Kooyong VIC

verified email - 10 Dec 2012

Cumin Thai restaurant is probably the best Thai restaurant in Kooyong in my book. As I lived in Hawthorn on Glenferrie Rd for a decade, this Thai joint has become a local favorite right next to "Koots Salle à Manger" (awarded one hat restaurant from The Age Good Food Guide).
Although the food there is not that kind of authentic, the quality of their dishes are high and they are reasonably priced.
We love to have "grilled pork neck salad" and "stir fry flat rice noodles with pork". My wife loves the grilled salmon cutlet dish (can not remember the dish's name sorry) and also their mixed entree. I always left this place thinking that the chef should have got very good wok skill because my noodle was always nice and long (if you love to eat noodles you know what I mean right)
The atmosphere is nice and cosy but a little bit too dark for my preference. it's just little hard to read the menu that's all. The service is great, friendly, attentive, and fun. We had a quick chat with one waitress on our last visit and she was really cool to make us go for desserts (her selling skill is quite impeccable to us).
Our overall experience for this Thai joint is above par. Some might disagree with us that they are on the way down but for us...we do recommend this restaurant for you locals and all surrounding suburbs.

This review is for One Thai Restaurant, Balwyn VIC

verified email - 03 Dec 2012

A friend of mine has been living in Balwyn nearby One Thai so this is how I found this place and have become their regular ever since. The food here to me is great. Although menu wise is not that exciting , the taste and serving size are something we're addicted to. he Pad See Ewe and Pad Thai noodles are my favorite dishes as I am a noodle lover. They are delicious and are similar to what I had in Thailand.

The service is fabulous. The girls are friendly and attentive; so, you might find your glass is always full with water for whole night. But that's a good thing right. Dinning has such a great ambience to keep us sit down and enjoy our time there.

To sum up, like I said their menu is not quite exciting so it might be worth to make a trip but if you're local or live near Balwyn, One Thai is my pick of your Thai dinner tonight.

This review is for Tom Toon, Abbotsford VIC

verified email - 02 Dec 2012

Tom Toon is where most Thai students go enjoy their meals. (I was told from my Thai friend.) I personally have been there 5 times now and have been impressed every time, especially with their foods. The food is more like street foods and from Isaan (North Eastern provinces) in Thailand.

My favorite dishes are "Beef noodle soup", "Grilled chicken liver with dipping sauce", "Papaya salad with sticky rice", and "Pork skewers". They all are delicious and challenging to me at the same time because I'm not a big fan of offal but I love grilled liver there.

Service is not on top of their game IMO but if you wave them like when you're in Thailand, you will get their attention and get service.

The food price is not high but if you look at the serving size, it's not that big. I ordered 4-5 dishes for myself every time to make me full. But like I said before they all are delicious so I don't mind ordering them at all.

To sum this up, Tom Toon is not a typical Thai restaurant we've seen a lot in Melbourne;so, if you want to try something interesting and tasty, this is my pick for you.

This review is for Thai Saffron, Brighton VIC

verified email - 02 Dec 2012

Thai Saffron has been a favorite restaurant for Brighton locals (the same team behind Thai Saffron in Hawthorn) for more than a decade, incredible right. They've been doing so well and there is no signs to slow down. That's just because everything they offer is absolutely fantastic. The food is really good with large portion. My favorite dishes are the jungle curry and pad Thai. I've had those two dishes almost every visit.
Service is always spot on. All the girls there are really attentive and friendly. Some of them can remember my name, which is really impressive. I do love their service.

The atmosphere is a little bit rushing and dining room is quite small and squashy as they are usually packed. Sometimes we even have to sit up-stair.
My overall experience with Thai Saffron is great and I still remain their regular customer as long as they maintain their standard like this. To sum up, for Brighton and Bay side people, Thai Saffron is my pick for you when you crave about Thai food.

This review is for Marmalade Cafe, Brighton East VIC

verified email - 01 Dec 2012

This is where I used to have my breakkie at least once a week. The Turkish melt is always outstanding, full of filling and crispy toasted Turkish bread, YUM! Coffee is great too. The only reason I don't go there that often anymore just because I love go out tasting food at different places all the time now. However, Marmalade is still one of my favorite cafes to sit down and enjoy my meal. P.S. their bircher muesli is great so you'd better try it out.

This review is for Thai Rose, Chelsea VIC

verified email - 01 Dec 2012

We've been to Thai Rose for three visits in the past few months and I can tell you that we enjoyed every time of those visits. Quality of the food is good and portion size is large. The stir fry fish with fresh chilli is outstanding, full of favor and gives us some kick. Massaman lamb is great too, nice and creamy (and not spicy). I personally like 'Crying tiger' beef salad. The beef is nice and tender and the dipping sauce is really flavorsome.

Service of Thai Rose is great, friendly and attentive. I love the fact that them girls wear traditional Thai dress to serve us food. They look beautiful. This is rare to see but again it's really nice.

The only downside for us is about food consistency. The stir fry fresh chilli fish is slightly different from time to time (we ordered this dish for all those three visits). The spiciness and portion size are not the same but it's still nice though. If they could improve this issue, this place would be more impressive to us.

To sum up, the overall experience at Thai rose is good. If you're local, this is where you should try out. For us, we would definitely go back there if we have a trip to Frankston.

This review is for Derby Thai, Caulfield VIC

verified email - 30 Nov 2012

Derby Thai has been with Monarch Uni students for many years, providing quick cheap Thai food with reasonably priced. My experience with this Thai joint is good.

My favorite dish here is chicken cashew stir fry. The dining room is quite tiny so it could be a little squashy during lunch time and after class in the evening. They also have got another branch in St.Kilda too but I like this one better. To sum up, Derby Thai is suitable for all students because the food price is so cheap and good valued. Go check them out, it could become your everyday lunch if you really love Thai food.

This review is for Sushi Factory, Bentleigh VIC

verified email - 30 Nov 2012

Sushi factory is probably the best sushi shop in Bentleigh to me. With a good range of hand rolls and some sushi packs, that would be enough for us to grab and go.

The shop is just next to Bentleigh railway station so that's so convenient for us commuters. The quality of sushi is satisfactory and the size is bigger than sushi from their competitors on Centre Rd. Service is just fine for me but there is no need to complain about. To sum this up, If you look for something quick and easy to eat on the go, Sushi factory is your real good choice.
