Dr David O'Callaghan

It's funny, my son is 21 years old now and today I started thinking of Dr David O'Callaghan and Dr Talbot, who I heard passed away a few years ago. I haven't seen Dr David O'Callaghan since I gave birth to my son Christopher at St Vincent's Private in 2001. I will say this, he was amazing, compassion, a realist and so supportive during my pregnancy. I had to have an emergency caesar and I was so scared and he held my hand and said it would all be ok and it was and I will never forget the support, and guidance he game me, as well as Dr Talbot who diagnosed me with PCOS as the reason why I struggled to get pregnant, but with their guidance and putting me on the fertility path, i was blessed with my beautiful boy - THANK YOU - from Maria

Unfortunately, I am unable to give you my option if Dr O’Callaghan is a great doctor or not, but I can tell you that we are no longer seeing him on our 29th week of pregnancy, for 2 reasons.
1. Dr O’Callaghan does not allow partners in the consultation rooms; David believes this is safer and hides behind the Covid pandemic. This is David's own rule and has nothing to do with St Vincent's Private and is not a reflection of other Obstetric doctors
2. The reception staff are rude and opinionated and will tell you St Vincent's private don’t allow partners with their pregnant wives (how foolish to think I wouldn’t call and confirm).

Dr David O’Callaghan might be a nice guy and good doctor but if you want you partner to be there, present with you, don’t choose David. There are many other doctors who allow partners and not twist the truth.

David is kind, caring and calm in a crisis, all you would want in an obstetrician. He is extremely competent at his work. Highly recommend.

I recently had my first child! I was so distressed during my labour and David talked me through everything, held my hands when I reached out for him, and made me feel so calm! The energy in the birthing suite was upbeat which automatically made me feel at ease. My experience with David was simply amazing!!! He delivered a healthy baby under very difficult circumstances and did it with a smile on his face. I can’t thank him enough. Leanne, his receptionist, is always so lovely. She sure does create a warm environment in the waiting room.

Best obstetrician and all round great man!

I couldn't recommend him highly enough. Very calm and to the point. He delivered my very large baby boy without any issues at all.

Dr. David is good but his receptionist Lianne can make your life difficult. judgemental and delayed very emergency messages, very unprofessional

I saw him for my endometriosis. [redacted clinical content] He is sensitive , caring and his manner is very proffessional.

Dr David is calm, methodical, highly intelligent, cluey and brilliant at delivery. I would recommend him highly to all mums and particularly those who are anxious or who gave complications. He delivered my 5 babies and I thank him every day.

Delivered my first in 2013 and then my second in 2015. Highly recommend David. He is lovely, caring, patient, takes no unnecessary measures.

Lovely Man... Brilliant obstetrician. Would definitely go back to him if I decided to have more children.

He handled my very difficult delivery beautifully.

David is a wonderful obstetrician. I like that he is unassuming, quiet and always happy, regardless of the time of the day or night. Hes pro-natural birth however he doesn't preech it and supports you along the way with his expert advice.
He's very accommodating when it comes to extra queries or our of hours consultations to ease ones mind. He's absolutely lovely and makes you feel comfortable straight away. there's usually very long waiting times to see him, however it's understandable with the kind of work he does.

i had David as my obstetrician for both my pregnancies in 03/04 and 07/08. He was wonderful, kind and caring in all relating issues ... he maintained professionalism as well as making us feel at ease and relaxed. His bedside manner was relaxed and smooth and we were lucky to have him as our ob! Since then, he is now my gyno and i couldn't imagine seeing anyone as good as him.

David was my obstetrician for my first pregnancy in '98-'99. He was efficient and friendly. Good bedside manner - no nonsense. He was recommended to me by midwives who worked with him. He was lovely during labour when the birth became surprisingly complicated. I have since had a public hospital birth and a homebirth. But if I needed an OB I would certainly use him again.

David is a kind and competent Obstetrician. He was considerate and professional while delivering my son and is always available to answer questions and concerns. He arrived on time to my delivery and gave the best care I could ask for. After care was also good.
