Dr King was on call when I delivered my first bub as unfortunately my doctor wasn't on call that weekend. I was in transition when she finally arrived early on a Sunday morning. I remember her commenting to the midwife that her family was away for the weekend and she wished she could have slept in (I'm sure she didn't think I could hear her, but I did). She insisted I roll on my back even though I had been labouring for 16 hrs on my knees and elbows up on the bed as her comment was she couldn't control the baby if I was on my knees. That was so hard to do when nearly ready to deliver. She then made me push so hard in the final stages and it felt so unnatural, my face had blood blisters on it after the birth. She also insisted on an episiotomy which I refused, luckily. For some reason she didn't come and see me after the birth, maybe as it was a long weekend. I did complain to the clinic about this some time after and they apologised and said it was an unintended oversight, but I still never heard from Dr King directly which I found upsetting. It meant I had no debrief on the birth from someone who was present, which I think is essential. I'm sure if she is your booked doctor, you understood how she practiced, she knew your birth plan, and you built a rapport with her she would be good (she has alot of wonderful reviews), but I still hold this upset 6.5 years later. I had a healthy bub and recovered well so I cant complain on that front. I booked another doctor for bub number 2 who happily let me deliver on my knees and elbows up on the bed (they insisted it was one of the safest positions for birth), never mentioned an episiotomy and never asked me to forcibly push, just guided me with my breathing, to avoid tearing, as I crowned. It was a much better experience. They also came and checked me every day after the birth whilst in hospital, as expected. My hope from this delayed review is that it's understood that what women need in birth is to be supported, listened to and most importantly left as undisrupted as safely possible. The birth experience is not something a mother forgets.

I had a similar experience, which is a shame. She was far too busy with her kids home schooling and complained at every appointment she was too busy. She came across as quite lazy and was clearly annoyed if she couldnt leave work on time. Dont have the last appointment of the day!
She couldn't be bothered discussing a birth plan, so I ended up with a very similar situation to yours where she was very pro intervention and was impatient, which was really upsetting, even now. She only saw me once when i was in for 4 nights and that was the following day, so I suspect yours was not an oversight, but her being lazy. I never saw her again until my 6 week appointment, and she never apologised for not seeing me again, even though her written info said she would. I will NOT be seeing her for #2.

Vanessa was excellent and will definitely use her services again if we have another bubba. She was always happy to answer our questions and oblige us with extra ultrasound views. She's very personable and easy to have a joke with (which was important to us). During labour she put our minds at ease when things weren't going according to plan ; )

We used Ness with the birth of our first son. She was amazing! I can't recommend her highly enough. She is personable, caring and kind. The stay at St Vincents was great too. We will be back when it's time for number two!

I can not recommend Dr Vanessa King highly enough. She delivered our beautiful baby girl and through the whole pregnancy was able to relax myself and my husband. We had full faith in her and she made our journey enjoyable and ultimately a safe and healthy delivery. After delivering our girl in the early hours - she was back that morning to check on us. Her bedside manner was caring and wonderful.

Vanessa was a great obstetrian for my first baby. My husband and I were very comfortable with her throughout the pregnancy and birth. She is easy going, caring and answers all your questions. I was recommended to go to this suite of obstetrians as they are all known to be great. I would definitely recommend Dr King.

Had my second baby with Vanessa and can't thank her enough. Both pregnancies were stressful for me but Vanessa eased my anxiety and was always able to say the right thing. During the birth she was there basically from beginning to end, again in her very calm & relaxing manner. Her cost was also very reasonable. Always seen on time with my appointments as well.

Vanessa 'Ness' delivered our baby boy on 30 May 2013. Throughout my pregnancy and birth Ness answered our questions and allayed our fears/concerns with her professional expertise and calm / relaxed personality and approach. She works from a clinic of other female obs, which I wanted. The ladies in the clinic were always helpful and friendly too! When I was looking for an obs. I read Ness's recommendations on WOMOW, and I'm now pleased to be adding my own.

Ness was fabulous throughout my entire pregnancy, labour and post birth. Prior to our daughter arriving Ness would answer my endless questions, putting my mind at ease - and believe me there were a lot of them. She also was great during the birth - my husband said I switched off from him and on to her - and she brought our little girl safely into the world on 06/02/2012. I would not hesitate to recommend Ness to others, she has great bedside manner, is knowledgable, is more than capable (I put her to the test with some post labour issues and I could not have asked to be in a better pair of hands) - she is also a really nice person. If I have another child, I'll be looking forward to taking the journey with Ness again.
