Filthy, ripped seats with broken cup holders, whole room not cleaned and stinking. Dirty toilets and live rats literally roaming around. Customer service written response- “sorry about our local fauna”.

Very dissatisfied since I had booked a movie in Gold Class on the 8.2 and the session was canceled.
I received a email notifying me just one hour prior the session starts and still waiting for my refund as the email says.
Also I contacted Event cinemas through App and no response so far.

Has the most recent movies, comfortable seating, and plenty of options for movie snacks and online booking. Is not super cheap, but is about standard for the main cinemas. Students are slightly cheaper and watch out for deals. Ads go for 20 minutes in my experience so don't panic if you are a touch late, but you might not get the seats you want.

Approximate cost: $16-20

I don't really understand the previous comments in reviews about the screen being small. It's bigger than any domestic big screen TV. Maybe I'm just not that fussy; as long as the screen is the size of a big wall and I can see it unobstructed, I'm happy.

The staff here are really quite good at making sure the place is cleaned between sessions.

The service I think is fine (they aren't waiters in a restaurant after all), they sell tickets and clean up any messes rude people can't be bothered to. I've being patronising this cinema for almost 20 years and I can't really think of any time someone gave poor service. But again, maybe I'm just not that fussy, as long as they do their jobs and aren't rude I'm not bothered by whether or not they look bright and chirpy.

Prices are expensive, which is pretty much standard for cinemas. The food/drink prices are more irritating since you're not allowed to bring in stuff from outside for "safety/insurance reasons". But since this cinema has a few stores in the main arcade leading to the movies I've been told that you are allowed to bring that food in.

Apparently the argument is, that if you choke or suffer an allergic reaction while in the cinema, and whatever you choked on or reacted to wasn't sold by the cinema, they aren't covered by insurance.

I think it's just an excuse to make you buy their overpriced candy. Oh, and once a couple of years ago the popcorn made me and my friend ill. We weren't vomiting, just felt quite unwell, it was the only thing we both had and we had both been fine beforehand.

So I normally just sneak in a bottled drink and snacks that don't smell. The ushers are not going to search your bag but if you rock up smelling of burgers and chips they will make you eat it or chuck it before they let you through (I learned that from experience).

I agree the screens are quite big. But my issue with this place is the cleanliness. I've had bad experiences where they just haven't cleaned up the cinemas. But glad to hear you've had positive experiences.

One of my favourite places to watch the latest movies. With a convenient location and excellent service, it is always a no-fuss outing with my friends and family!

lucy91 12 Jan 2013

Agree about convenient location. But I think the cinema needs a really good clean up every now and then.

I havent tried Events in the city. but I love the GOLD Class with events out West Sydney. A bit expensive but definitely worth it, just pick your movie

lisant 07 Feb 2013

Location is great in the city. Just better to go on a cheaper day, like Tuesday, or have a prepaid ticket when possible.

Wow you must get lucky with the clean cinemas! Unfortunately I haven't been so lucky, I've encountered some very dirty cinemas, I recon they need a good clean.

The price was $18.50 per adult ticket for regular seats, which is very expensive to see a movie. However, the cinema was clean and the day we went to see the movie, there weren't too many people in the cinema.

It was very unfortunate for the greater union in mosman to shut down. I loved it so much and it was well kept, the food was cheap and i loved walking down the road to see a movie. Ashamed that it shut down :(

This cinema is conveniently located near Town Hall station on George Street. I have seen a few celebrities here for the big premier events which was exciting. They really need to hire more staff though, because the queues to pick up tickets and to buy food from the candy bar are always really long, you need to factor in lots of extra time prior to watching a movie there. They should also consider more cleaning staff because often the cinemas are dirty and clearly have not been cleaned between sessions. The tickets are so expensive there for even the basic session, so they certainly have the funds to make positive changes. I won't stop going here because it is the main cinema in the CBD, but it would be nice if the experience matched the cost.

I agree about the location being so convenient. I was able to go straight home after the movie.

This cinema is conveniently located right in the middle of the city and often hosts big premier events. However the quality and hygiene of this cinema seriously needs to be improved. I've watched movies where it didn't seem as if the cinema was cleaned at all with popcorn and rubbish everywhere. However the Gold Class section was very clean with professional staff. Prices are also very expensive so it's best to buy vouchers whenever they arise or take advantage of the student discounts if you're a student. I think if the cinema cleaned itself up then people wouldn't complain so much about the service and cleanliness.

Event Cinemas in the heart of Sydney is a fun and exciting cinema to let off little steam. Although it is quite expensive today to go to the movies, this cinema promises a fun and entertaining movie with lots of sweats and popcorn to accommodate you from the candy bar.

Terrible service. Booked my tickets online to secure my seat as recommended only to arrive and find they had changed the cinema and it would now be half an hour later. Was offered no apology and once we got into the cinema found our seats weren't in the same area we had booked because the auditorium was different.

Approximate cost: $40

Great for movies and in an convenient location surrounded with buzzing activities for shopping or dining. The prices are a bit overpriced since you can buy a pretty brand new DVD for the same price.

KaterinaRohann 08 Jul 2013

Movie tickets are overpriced as a rule. Basically what you are paying for is the "privilege" of seeing a movie as soon as it's available, and to watch it on the big screen. DVD's are released after about 3 months now anyway not 12 months like they used to be.

The event cinemas on george street is great. The location is very nice - right in the heart of the city. It would be great if they can put on some indian movies, but the english movies are also fantastic. I love being there.

This is an amazing entertainment experience for an intimate setting that seats no more than 30-40. Here guests can relax in reclining chairs and enjoy full waiter service as well as a brand new menu it really is gold class ,the seats are way comfortable and the sound is top quality. Ideal to pamper yourself or go on a first date.

I've been to Gold Class a couple of times recently and it's a great experience, although not one you'd want to do all the time at your own expense. We went with gift vouchers, but tickets are pricey if you're paying yourself. Having said that, the experience is good - fully reclining, every comfortable seats with footrests and a table for food and drink. You can order food and drink (including alcohol) to be brought at a specified time during the movie, brought in by a waitperson. Great for a treat or a particularly long/great movie.

Friends and I watched Grown Ups couple weeks ago! Seats were good! Inside was big and roomy! Atmosphere felt like an ideal cinema. It was clean and had a joyful, safe and easy time! Staff was friendly. Shops beside them are Subway, timezone and a bar to name a few.

Al always the best is greater union. Since some of their cinema hall is still old, the sound system may seam bit like what you use at home. The new movies though come to the big new scree.

The screen is small, the sound sometimes is not so good. The rooms are big but no leg room. The student ticket is expensive. In my opinion students should have 50% off.

The screen and place were quiet small. Not alot of leg room. popular movies sell out fast. So be early if you want a seat. Allocation of seats is a pain, especially when you arrive and the lights are off. However, ticks prices are reasonable $9.00 Tues. and the place is situated near afforable eat out area for u and friends.

Approximate cost: $9-20
