We didn't understand this place. Why was everyone going to it when there was an abundance of other very good eateries very close by? So we ordered a simple seafood basket (Seafarer) and was returned a styrofoam container laden with deep fried stuff very similar to Barnacle Bills (in SA). Prices were similar too, so it's nothing spectacular and still left us wondering what was with its popularity.

I find it similarly disappointing, there are so many better restaurants within meters!

We first discovered about this place by asking our hotel staff for their recommendation of a good fish and chip shop which was walking distance ... and so they suggested we go to Flippers.

It was an easy 15 minute walk to get to. The shop is located by the water which was scenic and a nice way to eat your meal amidst the fresh sea air.

And so our flake and chips was absolutely delicious!! The fish itself melted in your mouth as it was tender and fresh tasting. The chips were cooked just right, nice golden colour and I was glad to find I did not have that oily aftertaste.

Service by the staff was excellent, very friendly and we did not wait very long for our order.

Definitely will go back to this fish and chip shop next time we visit Tassie.

This is a really great tourist experience to have in Hobart. After walking around the dock you can enjoy the very freshest fish (really yummy) and eat it right there out in the open. The kids thought it was so funny being sold from a boat.

We didn't have to wait long for our order and the chips were really nice. Didn't think we'd be able to eat it all at first, but the sea-tang of fresh air made us extra hungry. Very nice and friendly staff - asked us where we were from etc. And you are able to use the self serve sauce and salt, which is good.

A fun and tasty time was had by all.

A nice reliable shop for always fresh fish and chips. Service is friendly, and a good place to have a yarn with some locals about the local sites, and other near by facilities to get involved with.
The food is cheap and cheerful, better than the other local competition, as well as being served with a more genuine attitude of friendliness, and more dedication to service from the staff.

The calamari was amazing, cooked perfectly. Prawn cutlets divine and garlic prawn pretty good. Seafood bites were average but scallop excellent. Crumbed trevally was ok but nothing to rave about. I thought the size of the chip serve was a little small in the fisherman's deluxe. Also you need to salt then yourself but with the seafood on top it's almost impossible to salt the chips. I do prefer my fish and chips wrapped in paper... On the whole it was fresh and tasty.

Approximate cost: $10-19

The food at flippers is always fresh and of good quality, we love the fish there! Service is always with a smile and you never have to wait too long to be served your delicious meal! I love that you can sit by the water, it's picturesque. We absolutely love it on a Friday night after work - it's relaxed and we usually eat with our hands!!

Approximate cost: $10
