The Great Britain is a great local pub for Richmond. Its a good place to start at before heading out or its even better to stay and drink at all night. The entertainment, service and functions are awesome and better than most place.

Joe is right - the GB is a great bar. It is quintessentially Richmond and it has a few things that nudge it over the edge for me - a pinball machine (last I checked, it was Scared Stiff), live music that ranges from the ludicrous to the sublime, and a fishtank in a TV. If you like kitsch, you'll probably like the GB.

Approximate cost: $7-8 a pint

As you may be able to tell from my ratings, I think this is the greatest bar in the free world.
The reasons are: there are couches everywhere for a very relaxed environment, there is and open fireplace, the meals are either Thai or Pizza that they sort out for you and bring it to your couch, the staff are great and entertaining, there is a beer garden, there is an underground section that is open til very late on Fridays and Saturdays, there is entertainment every night (except mondays) and bands on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Approximate cost: $12
