10 reviews about Hill Street Grocer

This is what a greengrocer should be about, highlighting the freshest, best produce sourced as local as possible.
The produce is always to the highest standard and they have such a great selection to purchase. Yes the prices are more than your average supermarket fee but quality is a thousand times better than any supermarket

One of the highest quality greengrocers you will find in Tasmania. Prices are quite high however you pay for what you get. Range of products is excellent especially considering the small size of the shop. Service was not the best but they may have just been having a busy day

A very good, local supermarket. They have the freshest produce and such a wonderful variety too. They have really friendly service too but a tad expensive (but to be expected). I love the design too - very green and modern. Everything about it is very Tasmanian. I love this place though they were closer to where I live in Hobart.

we have had excellent service from the west hobart branch and this family run business takes hands on to the top limits. Over the years we have learned that even small businesses make mistakes but it is how these are dealt with which makes one return; or not!! I recently bought a leg of lamb from the Newtown branch and unfortunaely this "leg" had been miss labled and was in fact a shoulder. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THEIR meat was brought in prepacked from outside and took the bone in to show them so that they could possibly prevent this oversight from reoccuring. Once i had explained the problem to NICK the manager he immediately introduced me to GARY the butchery manager and i was overwhelmed by their thanks and profuse apologies. Further more; even though HILL STREET is a relatively small business they are often far cheaper han the big two grocers and the quality is unsurpassed.

Approximate cost: $9/kg

Love this store. They're fresh fruit and vegetables are generally cheaper than the supermarket - plus it just has a wonderful atmosphere. Also, they sell bagels!

I love this store, and wish I was within walking distance so it could be my corner shop!
I drop in several times a week on the way home from work for the fresh salads from the deli bar, and buy virtually all my fruit and vegies here now. They have a selection of loose salad leaves (I hate buying the packaged ones from the supermarket), and lots of take away options from the deli in salads, quiches, pastas, moussaka and lots more.
Have a good range of general grocery items, and while these are more expensive than the big supermarkets, it's very convenient if you just want a few things.
Space is limited, but staff are always friendly and helpful, and very gracious in the frantic lead up to Christmas!
Anything my sister buys in Sydney that I can't get in Hobart, I look for it here!
Keep up the good work, guys, it's much appreciated!

A gem of a store! Real estate agents rate homes in the inner parts of Hobart on their proximity to this place. Just about any interesting item of food can be found on their shelves, as well as a wonderful selection of Tasmanian wines and the most outstanding fruit and vegetables you've ever seen! And usually cheaper and far better value than the 2 main supermarket chains.
Shoppers come from all over Hobart and even further afield to browse and buy. Need some milk, sliced bread. toilet paper: yes, it's a corner store with all the convenience that implies. but how many corner stores also offer 10 different varieties of virgin olive oil, unpasteurised Roquefort, verjuice, and gourmet breads from Hobart's 3 best bakers

Approximate cost: $similar to supermarket prices

Aside from being the place where Princess Mary shops when she's in town, the main reason so many Hobartians shop here is the great quality and range of food. They have the best range of bread in Hobart with varieties you don't find in too many other places, including loafs, rolls, bagels, pretzels etc. Fantastic cakes and top quality local produce including fruit, vegetables, flowers, dairy products etc.
Their weekly email tells you about their specials and details the region those products are from so you know where you're buying your food from.
Although this little shop can be packed, the staff are generally quick to serve you so you won't have to wait too long.
