Great moody atmosphere, with dim lights, half underground, and plenty of chatter amongst the tables (not too loud) that gives a good experience. Always offer specials and the food is always very good. Table service is always accommodating and the wine list is also solid without being extensive.

Yummy good Italian cuisine. It's a bit of an institution around the city. The scallops & pork belly are devine. The potato goats cheese tortellini with burnt butter and sage, is next on my list. Making anyone hungry?

I tried them for breakfast, heard lots of good reviews about them, though the food quality was amazing, I was really disappointed by the non friendly waitress who served us as she was a little bit aggressive, besides that I enjoyed my time and the ambience is impeccable.

Quality of the food has gone down. Quality, speed of Service and ambience are still excellent. However, the food is not hitting the mark in terms of quality and preparation. Menu wise, the plates are traditional standard Italian. This is fine. What is not fine is ill preparation. Recently I ordered a beetroot salad. The beetroot had been boiled (instead of roasted) and therefore lacked texture and flavour. The real downfall however, was the spinach & rocket base. As I was eating, I noticed two rocket leaves which had a few tiny bugs clinging to the leaf. This is quite unacceptable.

Place not to visit !!

Hi Rosep1, thanks for the information. Sounds agreeable apart for their inability to adequately wash salad leaves. Reeces

Went there last night for dinner. The food is Italian and lovely. It's ambiance is really cute...... Reminds mr of the littler Italian Restaurants in New York. Overall a great place to eat.

A very reliable venue.
Service is always attentive. The food is always well prepared with fresh ingredients, if not highly inspired/haute cuisine.
Servings are generous.
Intimate atmosphere.

I've always known these guys make superior coffee and we've recently switched back over to make this place our regular coffee haunt after the last cafe's barista's skills left with the last barista. If you've heard of "god coffee" but never experienced it, you might want to check this place out. They only do small takeaway coffees at $3.50 which is at a premium to other places - but it matches the quality rather than the quantity. You can order extra strong at no extra cost too. I've had one meal here and it was awesome quality, but you're looking around $30 mark for a main meal here and there is some fierce local competition. In my opinion a lunch meal ideally should fit closer to the $20 mark - these prices are more your "dinner rate". But it's one of those places you take someone you want to impress and they're bound to ask "how the hell did you find this little gem!?"

Absolutely gorgeous Italian food that is really fresh and scrum my. Serves are generous and better than the food I ate traveling in Italy. I've been twice to the bistro and went with my partner to the restaurant where the service is more formal. All three experiences have been terrific. It's got a great atmosphere, feels very exclusive and chic, but is so warm and cozy at the same time.

Love this place! Each time I've eaten here, the food has been brilliant. A great restaurant to take interstate visitors to as well - you can't beat the location and cosy atmosphere. A much better italian food experience than Lygon street.

Excellent casual dining Italian place. The menu seems to be evolving with new dishes from time to time. The service is friendly and polite. Great wine list. Fantastic value for Money in the Melbourne CBD.
