A sweet spot for a euro styled luncheon, excellent food and an interesting shop to browse. Lovely small outdoor garden to wander about. Really enjoyed a girls lunch there!

After laughing my way through some very descriptive negative reviews on another site curiosity got the better of me and I decided to visit to see what all the negative fuss was about.
It only took a few minutes to understand why this cafe rates so poorly. The staff are unbelievably rude. After initially being ignored we had to approach them for service. When our order was bought to our table we were abruptly told we'd have to vacate our table in 1/2 hour which was quite laughable given the cafe wasn't even busy.
There are plenty of better options in Eltham where you'll find great food matched with excellent service (eg The Eltham Tea House).

Same as the other reviewer. I've come here often but the last time I came with my grandson (18mth) hubby and daughter & son in law...they tried to shove us to a table around a corner that wasn't as grand as the other tables...we didn't even have a pram so that wasn't the excuse used here. Thankfully my daughter went to the better table (the cafe was basically empty). We were given rude looks even though my grandson (curly hair, an angel!) was behaving perfectly. The cakes here are nice (though pricy $7 a slice) and whilst the decor is lovely (the most beautiful french cutlery with bees on them, you can get them from House) the staff just make the whole visit unpleasant. They sell lots of homewares and some clothing (womens) upstairs, mostly parisian style. It's all overpriced but lovely to look at and perhaps get a somewhat unique gift. Though my advice is shop around first and make sure you can't get it elsewhere.

Approximate cost: $15

Sounds like such a dissappointment. Looking at the place I would expect more.

Gorgeous gardens. It's a shame the beauty of the location is spoiled by the rudeness of the staff. The staff appear to be living out some kind of extraordinary 'Brighton comes to Eltham' fantasy and clearly young mums are not the desired clientele. We were rudely told several times that our table was reserved in half an hour and not allowed to move to the only table that wasn't reserved because the pram wouldnt fit (not true at all). We were given no other options, so ended up standing outside talking until it began to rain. Can't say we'll be rushing back to do that again. Food is ok but overpriced and not worth the attitude.

Approximate cost: $15

Oh my, its like you wrote my post for me - an atrocious, farcical establishment that needs to go back to Brighton or whatever godforsaken rude place it came from :\
