Great value. Excellent ticket prices and a great range of food also at great prices. There can often be queues to get in but you don't have to wait long. Always plenty of staff on.

I love the drive ins. Gives movie night an old school feel. The dognuts are delicious. The hot dog bread is a bit tough but doesn't ruin the meal.

We love going in my partners car with a mattress and blankets in the back, best way to experience it.

I have been going to this drive in for many years (before 2008). The Drive in is a former shadow of what it was....truly, as for the value for money yes in summer it can have some effect for a carload...but a carload in winter while raining out side no thanks.
Pricing
when I first started going kids under 12 free and had double session's without having to pay for the next film....now well to be honest it is near the area of don't bother.
Screens and sound
Screens 1 to 3 are true drive in screens and are fantastic to watch films on. ...screen four well if a film is on that screen change films or head home. Sound is by radio and I think it is one of the best parts of the drive in.
Food and amenities
If you asked me 6 years ago....it rocked and good value, now dont bother and bring your own.
The amenities are good and clean, also the playground is fantastic for the little ones.
Staff
I have only ever encounted one bad staff member in all my time taking the family and friends, for the most part the staff are helping and nice to deal with.
Summary
I love this drive in and it is sad to go in the direction that it is going, I wish that in some way they could understand why the numbers are down and fix it.
Food...it is poor right now and is a easy fix
Pricing....can be fixed with only a few steps dropping the price and fixing the other issues they will return. Also a free hint no dad or mum wants to see a kids film..pssst make the adult free or offer a coffee or anything for them.

Lunar Drive In 04 Sep 2018

Hi Gavin, Not sure what you are compareing to regarding cost. In 2002 our adult price $12, it is now $13! Our double feature carload price was $35, our carload price now is $30. Our 2nd features were all older movies with limited appeal, now every film is first release. (You can still see any second film you wish for only an extra $5 btw)

Our food has remained the same, with burgers and snacks cooked fresh using mostly local produce. The prices have only risen slightly in all that time. In fact by weight, our burgers and chips are lower in price than McDonalds. Our popcorn which is popped fresh every night, is the lowest cost of any cinema in Victoria.

As for losing customers, the business has more than doubled since 2008. We have major works about to get under way which will see modernised and expanded viewing areas, cafe. ticket boxes and toilets. Sorry you think we have gone backwards, but it is the same family running the Lunar that always has been since re-opening in 2002..

Great experience. So cheap two movies for the price of one. This is a classic drive in, and good fun for the family. The food is okay and and cheap. I took my dogs in the car to see a movie!

Been here a few times. Pricing is great compared to the cinema. You need to get there early to get up the front, but there's plenty of parking spots anyway. Can be annoying when cars have their lights on while trying to watch the movie. And I have been next to cars with their kids jumping in and out of the car. Best to go and watch the M rated films, no disturbances. The food is not high quality and over priced. Our hot chips were dry and shrivelled. We complained and OMG got another lot of dry and shrivelled chips. Good place to go, but definitely take your own food. And also in winter, the windows of the car keep fogging.

A great place to go with family and friends. There's a range of movies on, hot food and snacks, free games inside the cafe' if you arrive early, a small playground, great sound and picture and fair prices.
A nice place to relax and enjoy family time and let the kids fall asleep on the way home.

This is so much fun and such amazing value. You pay by the car load rather than per person. We pack up the kids, deck chairs, food and the thermos so it's a really cheap night of entertainment . Had a steak sandwich from the cafe once and it was good too

I thought they had closed down many years ago now but was so happy to hear they're still in business and thriving (or so I expect) just some good ole' fashion fun, we took my partners nephews who can be hard to impress at times and they loved it. Staff are wonderful and prices are great, entry fee is reasonable considering what you get out of the experience.

The Lunar Drive-In is just fantastic! Best value for money - only $28 per session for a legal carload! The staff are so friendly and helpful which just adds to the experience. They make the best hot jam donuts and the rest of the food is also great. What better way to watch new releases in the comfort of your own car with friends and family or you can even sit outside on a nice night. I have recommended this place to many and not one has been disappointed - definitely can't go wrong for a good night out.

Value for money is an understatement when used to describe the ever-fabulous family friendly experience that is Lunar Drive-In. With a drive-in upgrade maybe twelve or so months ago to include a fourth screen, there really is no shortage of movie selections on any given night of the year. I particularly love their 'legal carload' pricing option. Depending on the size of your car, this can mean (as is our case) up to seven or eight admissions (of any age) for the one low car load price of $28 - even for double features. Viewers are welcome to take fold out chairs, outside refreshments and even the well-behaved family dog. There really is no greater recession buster and at these prices, its hard to justify cinema seat prices. Drive-in staff do security checks around the property throughout the evening, and we have always felt safe, comfortable and secure. The Lunar Cafe offers free amusement games for the children during interval, - and some more than reasonably priced menu choices.

Great place for couples or families. The food bar is terrific with fresh popcorn on offer at a decent price (not like Village or Hoyts which charge a high premium and deliver stale goods) and friendly staff. Much more reasonable charges than the general movies.
We visit regularly and love it!

The Lunar Drive-Ins is the perfect place to get comfortable and watch great movies with friends and family. The snack bar is home of one of the best jam donuts I've ever tasted and the usual popcorn and drinks. It is also great because you can bring along any food you want and blankets if its cold.

The Lunar Drive In is one of the last remaining drive-ins in Melb. It has 4 screens and is excellent value to take the fam to the movies - $28 for a carload. Pack up your homemade popcorn & snacks or eat at their well stocked snack bar. Only downside is no EFTPOS so make sure you have cash. Wouldn't go to the movies any other way!

The Lunar Drive In is one of the last three remaining drive-ins in Vic. It has 3 screens and is excellent value for a family outing. David Kilderry has his on website on the history of drive in in Australia. http://www.drive-insdownunder.com.au/australian.htm

Great option for a family night out at the movies. Bring your own food or they have a canteen available with a good variety of things to eat. Watch the movie in the comfort of your own car.

With things being so tough and having to pull the purse strings, what better value can you get, and just think how much you spend at the cinemas for instance on movie and food. At least when you go here you can see double feature (2 movie) for $12 per adult, or if you want to be even more of a scrooge, look for the "tight ass Tuesday" special where you can pay as little as $8.50 an adult for 2 movies, you get to see new release movies for less than at the video store. The food is good there and I don't reckon it is over priced, you get to sit in your car with your family and even pet dog if you want. I don't think you can get better value for entertainment these days.

Approximate cost: $12 per adult (2 movies)

Coming once here was a great experience. Lunar Drive In was inexpensive for a car of people to watch a movie. I also liked the food of the cafe, there is a range of fast food which is a treat fot the family whilst watching the movie.

Thought i'd try the Lunar Drive In after hearing many good reports from friends. I was not disappointed! My partner and i took my niece and nephew to see Wall-E, and only paid $25 for the car! We hadn't had dinner, so decided to check out the Cafe. They have a good range of food, from popcorn and maltesers to Hamburgers with the lot and hot chips! Cheaper than your fish and chip shop, the "Lunar" burger was very appetising, my partner even wanted seconds, that was until he couldn't finish his serve of hot chips...we were full!! The kids loved it, we backed the wagon up and sat in the back with doonas and pillows to keep us warm and comfy! Not only was the movie fantastic, so was the atmosphere. And i could definately see my partner and i, coming to see a double feature one night too (2 movies for about the same price). Lunar drive in has definately won us over!!

We were greeted at the gate by very friendly staff, helpful and cheerful. We were amazed at the value of the ticket prices. Kids 9 and under are free and on the weekends they have an early session of kids movies so its a great, cheap way to take the family to see latest movies. The kids love it and we were happy to have a great, cheap night out.

Hard to rate the service and quality of a drive in, especially when there aren't a lot around to compare with any more. Lunar Drive In is great though. It's like being a kid all over again. There are so many cinemas these days it's a great novelty travelling to Dandenong to the drive in to watch movies from your car. All the best drive in food - popcorn, hot donuts etc. Prices compared to cinemas are a saving. Even if i can't always stay awake for the whole double feature I think that's all part of the fun experience.

Approximate cost: $12.00 for adults
