I love this zoo! It is quite expensive, but a great experience. I loved the giraffes and how they can come so close to the bus. I want to go back and do the interactive cheetah experience, that would be amazing! Great day out for the whole family.
This year we took out a family pass to do the adelaide and monarto zoo for $127.50(Family 2 zoos pass). The drive to monarto is a very pleasant experience through the hills. The children were very excited and loved seeing the animals in space. The giraffes even passed in front of our moving bus and was a great experience seeing them in front of you. The Rhinos are awesome, as well as the cheetahs. The bus driver(s) gave us a rundown history and really made us appreciate the worth of this place. Definitely a great day for the family, but preferably not a wet or stinking hot day. Lucky we had a sunny winters day which made the experience brilliant
The animals were great. The enclosures were large. Although the price seemed a little high for the quality of the buses and service. I had to have my 5 yr old child on my lap during the bus ride which I was quite disappointed with as I didn't get to see much and he was not comfortable. I also thought there might be a little more interaction for the children with something safe or someone knowledgeable, at the end of the bus ride. I was most disappointed to hear of the recent music festival that had taken place at the zoo and will not be returning.
We have been to Monarto twice - the first time to see the whole zoo and the second to do the interactive cheetah experience. Both were brilliant experiences. We were told it would take most of the day to see the zoo but thought given the number of animals we would be finished in a few hours. How wrong were we - it certainly is a full day experience. The bus was really good, the keeper talks were interesting and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. We got up nice and close to the animals. The cheetah experience was a little expensive but well worth the money- being able to get close to and actually touch cheetahs is probably a once in a lifetime experience for most people (if they're lucky - it's only possible because these cheetahs have been hand reared). I'd suggest cooler weather is best as the animals are more active. The bottom line is if you 're interested in / love animals you'll love Monarto - if not why would you be there anyway?

I have to disagree with the last reviewer, and find it hard to believe that anyone could criticize a free-range zoo for being 'far out of the city'. (45 minutes on the freeway isnt too bad, is it? Part of the experience, I would have thought! Then again, I do live out in the bush myself, and am used to travelling for everything). And with regard to the cost, imagine the huge costs in running such an establishment, and the benefits in conservation and research of endangered species cant be underrated, I feel. Anyway, thats what I think!!!
We loved the place. Who could not love watching the meerkats, just doing what meerkats do, as if we werent even there. And how fantastic hopping on and off the bus, driving through the paddocks with wild animals roaming around you.
I felt like I was in Jurassic Park,___well, without the dinosaurs. Alright, it was nothing like Jurassic Park, but I felt like I was on a safari.
A day here was a day well spent, lots of great moments watching the animals, great photo ops., and I felt like I was maybe, just in a small way, helping to preserve the planets wildlife for future generations.
Great value if as a family you combine the Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Zoo for $127.50 and is valid for 3 months. Monarto Zoo is brilliant and has Africa, Asian animals at their best. Love the Giraffes, the various cats etc. Do yourself a favour and take the kids on this brilliant tour.
To be honest i wasn't that impressed with this zoo its very far out of the city, its expensive to get in to, you have to wait for ages for the hop on hop off bus service to see the animals which is really boring for the adults and children. The staff giving commentary on the bus look bored and like they would rather be anywhere else and the same goes for the zoo keepers when they are giving there talks. The only plus side is that the picnic area is nice and clean. For me i wont be bothering to go again.
What a tremendous place to take the family, we even joined up as Zoo members after the experience, well done guys and the animals in their natural habitats are just beautiful
We visited during summer time. We pushed the kids in the pram but then found out that there was no space on the bus for prams (unlike newer public transport). The bus was airconditioned which was good. We got some wonderful snaps of the giraffe's right outside the bus window. Absolutely lovely.
I did enjoy my time there. Even though it was hot, there were air conditioned buses for those that didn't like to walk.
Many animals, but due to the heat, they were inactive and clumped around the shaded areas. Therefore, didn't really get to 'see' them per se.
Went expecting a bit more too, but can't expect too much.
The prices are a little high for what it is, but at the end of the day it's for the conservation of the animals, so you can't fault that.

This sounds like a place I want to take my family. I didn't know that you could have an interactive experience with the cheetahs. I must put this on my bucket list of things to do :o) thankyou
