stumbled across this gem on New Years Eve when my usual cheap and cheerful destination was closed for the the holidays. Don't confuse this with the more upmarket Nam Loong Seafood restaurant which is a block away and has tablecloths. This place is tiny, cramped and nothing fancy but very busy and very good. The service is incredibly quick and the food is good but a little inconsistent. We had three main meals and it totalled $34.00 and they provide you with free tea. They have a huge variety of steamed buns which we will try next time. It's not the sort of restaurant you would linger in and they have a quick turnaroud of patrons. The tofu and vegetable stir-fry was one of the best I have had in a long time.

Approximate cost: $8-14

Love this restaurant's steamed dumplings- youu named it- Char Siew Pau (roast pork bun), custard egg buns, red bean buns...etc. Though it's not cheap but it's delicious. You can buy it hot to eat or get it cold so you can go home and warm it up.
The restaurant is rather tiny and packed with people but worth while to visit to try its dishes and 'pau'. Yum!

One of the cheaper place around chinatown for tasty and authentic chinese foods. My favorite is the special fried rice and deep fried chicken ribs with pepper sauce. Also sells yummy BBQ pork buns and custard buns.

The food here is great, fresh and tasty and the steamed BBQ pork buns are the best I've tasted. I live in Adelaide, and this is the only place I eat at when I travel to Melbourne. This beats Chinatown in San Francisco, supposedly the best Chinatown in the world. Great food, great value, the only place to eat in Melbourne!

Approximate cost: $9

The dishes and take aways here are pretty cheap compared to other chinese restaurants. However the chinese tea is horrible....they could use better tea leaves. Very good value for money, but taste is just so-so for most of the dishes

The food is done well and authentic.
Represents great value for money.
Surrounds and service is not the best, but you do not come here for that (and you do not pay for it either)

I often have lunch here, and enjoy the value for money. They have many authentic dishes and a long menu with lots of choice. They have had some bad reviews, but that has not put me off, since the value for money is great.

Approximate cost: $10
