I was going to a show at The Regal with some girlfriends and had time for lunch before the show. Having been to Oriels back when I was somewhat younger, I was happy to see it was open again. Unfortunately I recommended to my friends that we eat there as they "used to be great"! In hindsight I should have realised that something must have been amiss as there were quite a few empty seats and the area was very busy at the time! After waiting in the doorway for a few minutes, a staff member finally noticed the four lovely ladies (us) waiting patiently and directed us to a table. The waitress was quick to take our order and between us we ordered two lasagne, a BLT and a chicken, avocado sandwich. They seemed to take their time making them and we were delivered three dishes - I sat and waited, telling my friends to go ahead an eat before it gets cold!!! Meanwhile, having glanced around the table, I noticed some rather ordinary looking plates of food, and an even stranger one once they finally delivered my meal (chick sandwich). Well the squeezy sauce on the plate may have worked for a kids meal but really???!! They were all served with chips that looked like they had been recooked ten times over - they were awful and barely edible. The lasagne meals were meant to also hae salad (according to the menu) but the salad must have done a runner! The BLT had a huge pile of onions on top - not listed on the menu and not usually found in a BLT! My *sandwich* was made up of two slices of french stick bread cut on the angle, chicken that was cold in some spots and tepid in others - not really pleasant at all!! I couldn't apologise enough to my friends for making them endure such awful meals. Needless to say, Oriels (the New Oriels) has certainly lost it's spark and we will NOT be returning there, not recommend it to anyone else. The only saving grace was the prices which were reasonable for the proportions but put your wallets away and spend a little extra on a decent meal elsewhere!!

Approximate cost: $15.00

The Oriel (or the new oriel as they are now called) has been in business for years. The only thing i remember from when I was a teenager was they used to charge you to sit down if you went with friends and did not order anything. As it's now under new management me and my fiance decided to give it a go. The first thing we noticed was the decor was quite awful and did not seem to have any particular theme (modern cafe style tables, with old 70s Italian lamp shades and a bar). But really if the food is good who cares? There are many places to get good italian in Perth and this is NOT one of them. My fiance order a meat lovers pizza which was dry and burnt and I ordered chilli mussel which were small and very average. We could not believe any restaurant would send out a pizza that looked as awful as ours. As well as this we both felt quite unwell afterward. If you are looking for good Italian head, up the road to the freo cafe strip. Far superior to this rubbish.

Approximate cost: $25

I have dined at Oriel's twice, once under the old management, and then, under the new management who calls it "New Oriel". I left dissappointed, both times. The food was very average for the price, and the service was totally unmemorable. The ambience was very ordinary and I certainly don't foresee going back there anytime soon.

Approximate cost: $25

Let's be honest about why we go here - it's one of the few places in Perth to serve coffee and food well into the night. Although the service may not be fantastic the atmosphere is good and the location is very convenient.

This is a great looking cafe in Subiaco that is open late at night. The staff are friendly and it has a good atmosphere but the food needs improvement and coffees need to be warmer. The price of food is a bit expensive.
