An amazing store with fabulous range of products, especially their toys which are different to the norm. The staff are pleasant without being pushy or following you around. All products are of a good quality and reminiscent of old school products.

Described by others as Stepford-wives like...... hahaha I can understand that. I must admit though I have nothing but praise for this place. I have received great sincere customer service every time I've gone there. I love the fact that they only approach you if you call them over. That allows me to gaze around at all the pretty things around me. As for the products well they speak for themselves. Quite boutique. You'll find stuff here for your little prince or princess that you won't find anywhere else. I have to admit my favourite baby store by far.

I was really pleased to read the last rating. I do hope that the management are looking at their customer service. I love the stock and would like to give it another go if they have made positive changes as noticed below.

I personally believe that the strength of any business rests with it's employees, so looking forward to visiting again to check it out and maybe buy some of the wonderful toys they sell.

I thought I'd come back here to add my 2 cents worth as I googled Parenthood before I went and was directed to this page. I'd only heard good things about this place from friends so it was really interesting to hear about the 'snooty' staff. I have to agree about the 'Prue and Trude' vibe of the place but I also have to admit all the staff were really nice. This, of course, could have had something to do with a Sale being on but it also made me wonder whether Parenthood are onto the fact word is getting around about their hoity toity attitude..hmmm

Loved the stock but we were in a rush so will definitely go back to have a proper browse. My partner, however, was not impressed at all. He said it scared him and was very 'stepford wives' (without having read the comments here by the way!)..He can be very dramatic ;)

Then again, what is with the name badges? The woman who served me had a badge with her name and underneath it said 'mother to blah and blah'...which seemed a bit cult-like, extremely cheesy and potentially discriminatory - Does this mean you have to be a mother to work there?

PS to the person who asked whether $70 was too little to spend for a friend's newborn..No way! To me that is very, very generous.

Approximate cost: $40

My husband, my parents and I went into the store on a weekend. The store was extremely busy at the time. However, we were attended within 5 minutes by a young woman who was extremely friendly and pretty helpful. We ended up buying a cot, change table and pram, all which were of a high quality and priced below their recommended retail values. Additionally, they have gorgeous toys which I will be going back for in the future. However, I would agree that the majority of the sales women in the store give off a snooty attitude.

Approximate cost: $2100

I adore the look of this store and the products are divine. However I seem to be amongst a number of people who have been disappointed with the customer service. I have been in three times but will probably not go in again. I'm not sure if the staff realise the snooty arrogance and 'Pru and Tru' vibes they exude. On the last occasion I visited, just under 3 months ago, I was looking for two good king single beds, 2 quality mattresses and 2 sets of king single bedding and mattress/pillow protectors. I waited a while until anyone came over to speak to me, even though it was a week day, there was only one other customer in the shop. Unfortunately when I was attended to I got an unmistakable feeling of being looked down on. I didn't think that the sales assistant had much to say about the items or children's needs regarding beds, other than that they were imported from Europe, as if this should be a prerequisite for all quality purchases. In any case I was told the bed I liked 'maybe' out of stock and 'perhaps' there were no more being made in that style. I pressed for a more definitive answer on the stock issue, resulting in a phone call being made by the assistant to the warehouse. I was also told categorically and condescendingly that in any case it 'always' takes at least 8 weeks to receive furniture from retail furniture outlets in Australia'. I left the shop feeling annoyed and unhappy...checking my reflection in shop windows to see if I was looking particularly Kath Day-Night'ish that day!

I walked 500 meters down the road and into Adair's kids and couldn't have had a more contrasting experience. Within 40 minutes I had purchased all the items I wanted, had a delightful retail experience, loads of great advice and had everything delivered within 3 weeks…with a smile. The real shame was that the next day the more experienced woman that had been there during my visit at Parenthood, called to give me details of their scratch and dent sale in case I was interested. Although the gesture was positive and appreciated, I still felt resentful of how I felt I had been treated the previous day and will not return.

Approximate cost: $3,500 +

Firstly let me just say that over the past couple of years I have gone into Parenthood quite a few times, but to me, it's like a really good looking ex boyfriend. I WANT to love it, I TRY to love it but I always leave feeling a little bit disappointed in the end. The large store with its great layout beckons me in and before I know it I am strolling around looking for a gift for a niece/nephew/child but it always takes me a couple of 'laps' before I can find anything and when I do, I always seem to find that its over priced. When I get to the counter there's very rarely a staff member there to help and so I am left waiting for what's usually,a pretty lengthy time in regards to shopping. Some of the older staff members who have helped me in the passed have given me funny looks when I have told them that I have a budget of around $70 (which I think is sufficient for a friends new born baby present?) and pushed me to spend more adding hats or small rattles into the present bundle...Just this week one lady tried to talk me into spending $270 on a Princess Castle - after I had told her what my budget was (and it wasn't anything near $300!!!)

I disagree with the comments posted on this website about Parenthood. I have visited this store on many occasions and have always walked away with a really good experience. They offer products that are great for gifts which I cant find anywhere else. Their staff are aproachable and friendly. To compare it to a Baby Bunting store doesnt give this store credit. I have been in Baby bunting many times and have always felt that their customer service could be improved! Will definitely recommend my friends to visit Parenthood!

I've read the other ratings on this store with interest. Is it the same store that I've visited 4 times in the last 6 months!! I LOVE This store - it is fabulous to go to a baby store that is stylish, really well priced (downright cheap for many toys etc) and not innundated with all the same commercialised brandnames. They have things that you just can't get anywhere else - fabulous for gifts - and my 17 month old plays with everything I've bought there. I've always had really good advice from the staff (most of whom actually seem to have kids too and are very happy to give advice). Sad old world when good old fashioned professional service is seen as corporatised. I'm happy to spend my money there and get beautiful things for my beautiful girl rather than rambling through the rubbish at Bunting and other holes in the wall.

Parenthood is a great store- it has everything you need without the hassle and chaos of a baby bunting! Unfortunatley the staff are arrogant and even though I spent over $400 there, I was treated as if I should be grateful that they were letting me purchase from their store! The only reason I stayed and purchased was because they had an item in stock that no other store in Melbourne had. I will not shop there again- there are enough struggling businesses in melbourne, I would prefer to support someone who values my custom.
