Wouldn't touch em with a barge pole!

Onsite Quote for attaching a new vandal free garden tap which we supplied - $494 + GST= $543.40.
No itemized quote was provided but the rep said we needed to replace a length of copper piping because the new tap would not fit the existing copper piping (not true) and also said we needed to replace the wooden stake to which the existing tap was attached. He said he would need to dig a deep hole "that big" and traced a circle of about 20 to 30 cm in the air, in order to replace the stake.
When I refused his quote he then quoted me $220 + GST for attaching just the vandal proof key to the existing tap.
If he was a plumber, he was also a hard nosed salesman offering exorbitant quotes and membership packages and anxious to quote on more jobs on the property. His sales pitch and manner told me that he didn't care about the client.
I again refused his quote and paid the call out fee of $49. He pressed me persistently about other quotes that I'd been given and I, point blank, refused to give him any information.
The plumber who finally did the job, charged me $104 all up for attaching a new vandal proof tap with key to the existing copper piping. He didn't need to replace the copper piping. He used an adapter which costs $5 to attach the new tap to the existing copper piping. The plumber also told me that replacing the hard wood stake was so simple that the task required no specialized skills and that I shouldn't dig a hole more than 6 inches deep and only as wide as the stake which is about 4 to 6 inches.
If PlumbFirst had dug a deep hole 20 to 30 cm wide it would probably have broken the piping beneath ground, to the advantage of PlumbFirst.
The PlumbFirst rep lied to me on at least 2 counts and quoted us $439 more than it cost to get the job done.
As ElecFirst and ComfyFirst are associated with the same company, I would stay away from them as well.

Called plumbfirst to repair a hot water service, was told about the call out fee, no problems, plumber arrived on time, told us of the part that needed replacing and quoted us $450.00 for a $30.00 part (understand he needs to charge for labor) part he replaces doesn’t fix the problem, was then told it could be something else which he quoted $800.00 to fix but couldn’t tell us that it was actually going to fix the hot water service so he then quoted us for a whole new unit plus labor etc. $3850.00 decided to get other quotes, job done with another plumber (whole new unit and labor) for under $700.00. For the same brand and unit plumbfirst were quoting!!! Plumbfirst still robbed us of $450.00 for a part that didn’t fix the issue and is now in the rubbish along with the old hot water service. STAY AWAY FROM PLUMBFIRST, just out to take advantage of you and rob you of your hard earned money. Seriously who can charge $3k for an hours work???
This matter will be taken further.

My shower was flooding with water. So, I called Plumbfirst to ask them to give me a quote to clear the shower blockage. They quoted me $746.90 including GST. I was shocked and didn't accept their quote. They then charged me $49 for a call out fee which is fair enough and I paid them their $49. Still recovering from my shock, I got out my plunger and decided to do this myself. Within 5 minutes, my shower was flowing again. Out of curiosity, I rang another plumber and he told me that he be happy to charge me $150 to do this job assuming that his 'snake' or plunger can clear it. I guess I was lucky enough to not have accepted Plumbfirst's quote! I should have done my homework by Googling other plumbers first.

I urge people to please, please, please do your due diligence before contacting this company and get comparative quotes. If you do get a quote from this business ask for a breakdown - they will quote a comprehensive price.

Plumbfirst have excessively ripped of my elderly and illiterate parents by approx. $1,000 to replace their hot water system in December last year. They were also sold a nonsense $140 membership. This company will send a salesmen to quote the job and send out a registered (not licensed) plumber to complete the work at a fr action of the cost for them. Unfortunately this conduct is seen ok by Victoria's Building Authority as it falls under some very vague 'supervision' code.

On top of all this they did not supply a compliance certificate within the legally specified time in which they are obliged to until I prompted them. I only wish I was home to read and compare the quotes for my parents before they signed it - unfortunately my parents trusted this business.

If you've feel you've been overcharged by this business I urge you to take the matter to VCAT. If you've had work carried out that is:

-any plumbing work that has a total value of $750 or more, including labour, materials, appliances, and/or fixtures, regardless of who they were purchased by
-all work carried out on below ground sanitary drains
-all work involving the installation, relocation, replacement or conversion of any gas-using appliance
-all work involving the installation, modification or relocation of consumer gas piping
-all work involving the construction, installation, relocation, alteration or replacement of cooling towers.

Please ensure you've received a compliance certificate from this business within five days of the plumbing work being completed.

This mob have misleading and false advertising. Quoted from $79 to unlock drain which seemed pretty good to me but when they get there they say $79 only involves using a plunger, and its not going to get the job done. I already knew that cos I’d tried the plunger myself. Then the next price they give you is nearly $600 just to unblock a drain which previous plumber had only charged $120 and only took 10 minutes. I couldnt believe the jump from $79 to $600. Surely I thought they’d have something more reasonable in between. The next thing is when you dont accept their highly infated quote they get all narky and demand $49 call out fee. I’d say that’s how they make their money, just call out fees.

Do not use them, they rip you off. I shouldve taken more notice of the negative reviews they had on various review sites.

So folk save yourself the headache and the $49 and go elsewhere. They just want their $49 for doing nothing anyway.

I’ve since had the job done for $150 from a good honest plumber and I’m all smiles.
