Wonderful mechanic

Darren came out to me this morning. I don’t think there is anything this man does not know about every inch of every car . He not only helped me with what I needed done ( and fixed it ) but he followed through with what I should do next to this problem doesn’t happen again . Darren Is capable of fixing the hardest things or the simplest with no problems at all . His customer service was impeccable he was so personal able . If this man ever leaves he is irreplaceable.

Roadside assistance is not worth the money
Twice I’ve had to call a private organisation as they are telling me upto 7 hour wait
Having a collectable old car this doesn’t work
They only use one company
No back up
You can’t book in prior
Waiting on the side of a road for a tow truck in suburbia this doesn’t add up

Do not recommend RACV. Their choice of repairer ruined my engine by not reattaching the air intake correctly and is refusing to take fault for it. No car now, and majorly financially impacted by them.

Called RACV to replace my newly bought premium battery bought from an authorized wholesaler Lion Batteries but refused to replace it unless I purchased one of their batteries which would cost me almost double the price. Not Happy. I have a Total Care Membership for peace of mind but very disappointed for not offering to assist unless I purchased their batteries...:(

I hadly drive these days because of Covid19, so i haven't paid my roadside assistance. Today evening Joe from RACV called me- Joe explained me all the benefits so well and spoke so clearly. He was so helpful through out the conversation - so i change my mind and decided to renew my RACV. I think this sort of emplyees definitely make RACV roadside a remarkable company. Thanks to RACV

DO NOT GET TOTAL CARE COVER
On the 27/6/18 my car broke down on the Bruce hwy near Caboolture Qld. I have RACV Total Care so I rang and a tow was arranged within 2 hrs. My vehicle was towed to an approved RACQ repairer. It was now late on a Friday afternoon. They first thought that they only required a fan belt but at 5pm the mechanic noticed that the idler pulley shaft was also damaged and the part wouldn't be available until Monday. So I was stuck in Caboolture for the weekend. I rang RACV total care and told them my situation. The person I spoke to said she was unable to authorise or arrange a hire car or accommodation. It was now around 5pm and all she could tell me was that I should receive a call back by about 8 pm. It was now very cold and dark. We tried to get a taxi to take us to a motel but none arrived. A hire car was also not available because they were all closed at 5 pm. We were now stranded on the roadside near Caboolture and all we could do is hope that RACV Total care call us back in 3 hours and organise something for us. They finally rang us about 8.30 pm but by that time my mobile phone battery was flat and I couldn't receive a call. We eventually got a ride to accommodation from a Good Samaritan and we arrange everything else ourselves.
I HAVE PAID FOR RACV TOTAL CARE FOR MANY YEARS AND AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE I WILL NEVER USE IT AGAIN. IT SHOULD BE CALLED TOTAL WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.

Remember that ad how a guy was going for an interview for nrma (same repor as racv) but saw someone needed help and was dirty and late but got the job because of this. Well that's not racv, an racv vehicle parked next to mine at a petrol station refused to help and drove off even tho I had cover when my car wouldn't start after running out of fuel (Diesel) opposite to the young P plater girl and friend who helped push my car to a Bowser. 90min after ringing racv as the guy told me to do, and still outside the eta for a racv car to come (another 90min) just needs a decent jumper pack to get the Diesel to the injectors. This guy definitely doesn't care for helping ppl

Extremely disappointed with RACV's recent service which resulted in my car window smashing. RACV have so far denied liability and refuse to reimburse me for the cost of the new window (although their auto-glass department charged me $325 for the replacement).

I've been an RACV member for over 10 years, as well as having my car insured with RACV during that time. Disappointing that Australia's most lucrative mutual organisation won't admit fault and cover damages they're responsible for. Further RACV has at present profited, as I then had pay RACV Auto Glass to come and replace the window. So much for their motto - "We're there for you".

I was locked out of my car with the keys inside so called roadside assistance. Serviceman tried to open the drivers side door by prying open top corner near window and then tried used a metal rod to pull handle. This was unsuccessful due to the car being deadlocked. Serviceman commented on it being very difficult to get into Volkswagen vehicles. I got spare key taxi'd to me. Car remained stationary under carport. 3 days later when I went to use my car the drivers door tempered glass window completely shattered when the door was pulled shut after getting in (door was pulled shut lightly - certainly no excessive force).

I feel there's clearly a connection between the glass smashing and the technique used 3 days earlier to attempt to break into car. I have no issue with the method used to try to gain entry - obviously most of the time it works fine. But there is some risk of damaging the vehicle / cracking the glass / compromising the windows strength. RACV took zero responsibility for the damage their serviceman caused. Car doors and windows are not designed to be bent or pried open. They are however designed (assuming they're not already cracked) to withstand high temperatures and fluctuations in temperatures - RACV's member relations & investigations team attempted to blame the sudden shattering of the window on a few consecutive days of 30 degree temps - for a car parked under a carport.

On a side note regarding installation of perspex temp glass by RACV roadside assist (cost: additional $80). I thought I was told on the phone that the serviceman fitting the perspex temp glass would clean up all the smashed glass inside my car and on the driveway. When the serviceman was finished and I brought this up I was told that this was not their responsibility and that RACV Auto Glass would do that (they were booked to come 3 days later). I figured I had misunderstood the phone call, but I needed to drive my car immediately so I cleaned up all the glass out of the car and from driveway. I have since discovered the RACV serviceman was in fact supposed to have cleaned up the glass as part of his fee. This was not done AT ALL! I have received nothing more than a fairly pathetic apology over the phone. And no reimbursement for any part of the $80.

On a further side note, the auto glass serviceman did not clean the glass out from inside my door. Nor did they clean the adhesive tape that was used to secure the temp glass off of window frame. I can hear glass pieces rattle inside the door, and occasionally small shards of glass fall out of small holes at the bottom of door onto the road / where I am parked. I was alerted to the latter when a small piece of glass got lodged in my bare foot after I had been surfing on the weekend. I am currently waiting a further 24-48 hours for an RACV Auto Glass serviceman to call me to make a booking to finish cleaning the glass out of the door.

Approximate cost: $400

Don't get stuck in Regional Melbourne. Call Centre quotes a rate per km for Tow to within Melbourne Metro, However once you receive a call from the local Depot they can demand whatever price comes to mind. I had the Price jump from $240 to $300 to $418 within a matter of minutes and 3 phone calls. Try and avoid the Wallan Depot for towing service. The roadside assistant was helpful. I feel like I'm getting ripped. Considering I've been a member for years and only 400m from Metro Region I expected more from RACV. I'll be cancelling my roadside service.

RACV Roadside assist (BOX HILL vic)saved the day for me. My car even though got me to work broke down and wouldnt start in my work car park. RACV guys were just fantastic. Not only did I need a new battery, tech#1, he arranged for tech#2 to come to my place of work and repair my car which needed a new alternator. The guys were just wonderful and very professional and friendly.

Hi Coralieh1, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but when you mentioned new alternator, a red flag came up for me. I had the same issue where my battery was dead and needed to be replaced. The bloke from RACV who installed my battery ran a test afterwards and told me that I needed a new alternator, and should get it fixed within the week.

So I book it in at the Toyota dealership where I have had it (my Yaris) serviced ever since I bought it back in 2008 as their service is excellent. My car was due for a service anyway and I picked it up yesterday where they tested the alternator which turns out to have no issues whatsoever. Upon speaking further with the bloke at Toyota it turns out that the RACV bloke was trying to rip me off.

Sorry, I forgot to add that I hope your car is running alright without any issues.
