It's tough competition in Melbourne but Rare cooked our steaks perfectly and they were full of flavour. The blue cheese sauce and red wine jus were also really tasty and well made. The vegetables/ sides weren't anything special, but were cooked well too. A nice interesting range of wines, with some good options to go with hearty red meats. Thanks to friendly and attentive staff who let us hang around much longer than we probably should have!

High quality steak and services with friendly staffs and manager. Last visit to melb was 6 months ago and this has always been in my revisit list. Love it.

Actually this review is for the Rare in King St. There are 2 Rares in the city, one at the west end, the other in the east. We went today for a business meeting... 4 'gentlemen'. We each had a steak and shared a bottle of red. Each order was slightly different (cut, how it was cooked, sauce type, etc) It would have been easy to stuff if up but everyone got EXACTLY what they wanted and how they wanted it. Cooked to PERFECTION and very tasty. High quality and very enjoyable. If you are a bloke in a suit at lunchtime, you'll fit right in. Maybe the clientele mix changes in the evenings/weekends.

The rare steakhouse is a great restaurant, took the wife here for dinner a few months back and for entree, we had a Baked Field Mushroom, which tasted nice, the saltiness of the cheese balancing the unsalted mushrooms perfectly. Salads tasted pretty great, but it was mostly to accompany the amount of meat we were going to be having.
For the main we had Pork Spare Ribs, which was the highlight of the entire meal. It was succulent and utterly fantastic. The steak, Angus Pure Porterhouse, however was not a great as expected. It tasted pretty nice, sure, but a little chewy. The Baked Cauliflower Gratin that we had on the side was a little bland but what lovley food and was very happy with the quality and price, we ended up spending $100 for the whole night. Enjoyed the service and very pleased with all staff.

My husband and I glady chose this steak restaurant for our wedding dinner as Rare is offering great food (the steaks were cooked perfectly) and having a nice variety of items on the menu. The portions are generous and the service is pretty good. Unfortunately there was a piece of plastic in one of our guest's salad, but Rare of course took the salad off the bill.
Overall, an outstanding steak experience!

Awesome Pork ribs.. Tender Steaks.. it was very tasty but the only problem is the service. it is so hard to get the staff attention and takes time for the staff to deliver what you requested. they surely need to improve the customer service. but i will go again because of the quality of food

Great steaks. Best in town. Tender, full of flavour and very large servings. Service left a lot to be desired. We booked a table for 8 people yet still had to wait 30 mins to be seated and another hour after the order was finally taken for the food. Not sure if I would return or could recommend this place unless the service improved greatly.
