Better off watching streaming service at home

Tiny cinema with the screen up way too high, you’d feel more comfortable at home. Crazy prices for drinks and snacks too. Give it a miss!

I go to the regent cinema at least once a month it nice and work and the staff are friendly I love the classic building and the fact that the cinema is old fashion looking it like no other cinema and I think that's a big part of it charm so please never modernise it

I love The Regent!
I dont know that Ballarat residents have much choice though.
Great service most of the time.
Can be pricey but they do offer membership deals and have the Cheap Tuesday deal.
They always have a movie for everyone :)

Only place in town to see new movies so for that they are great but fairly expensive and sometimes seem under staffed. Have memberships which make great value for money along with getting a free movie and always enjoyable place to go

They have great prices here if you sign up for a membership card. It includes a free movie ticket and signing up costs less than the actual ticket you get. Discounts on all food and cheaper tickets all year round are the bonuses.

i have never had any problems with this cinema. of course you get the odd people here and there that talk and are annoying through the film but overall the pricing is quite great especially tuesdays when its always $10 per film (not gold glass or 3D) there staff are always polite and friendly and they have a great range of snack and drinks to buy. seats are comfortable and not cramped at all

sound was poor and low also the picture quality was a little blurry so i messaged about this as its one of the big parts of a cinema experiance and no response seats are old and uncomfortable for $17 they also refused the deal being offered of a free ticket on signup of movie club it clearly states this when approached they still refused? worst cinema i have been in ever i would avoid unless desperate!cost is some kind of joke i would score no stars if i could!
update after i messaged them about the way they refused on the day to provide what is stated they are changing the policyin line with what is offered they still refused my free ticket despite the trouble caused i have to this date not been back

Hi Onlineseller, this constitutes as 'false' advertising and we would suggest you lodge a complaint with the ACCC. (This can either be done online or at the local office.) Unfortunately, the afore-mentioned business has a history of taking advantage of its patrons, particularly the disabled. It is imperative that we consumers stand-up for our rights and the rights of those less fortunate. Regards, Reeces

Going to the movies these days is so EXPENSIVE! i used to go to the movies all the time but these days its just way too expensive. Regent has great deals in terms of popcorn and drinks etc. however the tickets themselves are far too expensive and not worth going to when you can hire movies elsewhere.

At the movie we saw yesterday, it sounded like only the front centre speaker was set up. Definitely no surround sound. Picture not sharply focussed. No wonder numbers continue to drop when movie-goers can often get a better theatre experience in their own homes. We hadn't been for quite a while as the last time the sound and picture quality were also poor. Will not bother again as we get better sound and picture at home, also without the coughing, plastic bag rustling etc.

I have been to the Regent Cinema in Ballarat on many occasions, for both regular viewing and Gold Class. Even their smaller cinemas are comfortable with great viewing, although Cinema 1 is my favorite. Gold Class is great also with the comforts you would expect.

They also now have Movie Clubs which are great value.

Service was fine as they have people manned at the ticket counters, kiosk and at cinema doors. Cinema tough is small and pictures a bit distorted from side viewing.

I enjoy going to this fantastic cinema. It is cheaper than many other Village cinemas around. However, when joining their new movie club ($10 membership for basic)... I mentioned a few typographical errors on the form I was filling out. I only mentioned it to make sure I knew what I was signing up for and so they knew that others might have the same queries. I was told by a very nasty person that no-one has had any problems with filling out the form before and that I am the only one who has a problem with it! I still joined the club as they stopped sending out free email offers, and I go there very often. I would have however appreciated some old fashioned politeness.

I really love this old theatre. It's much nicer than the new ones being developed closer to Melbourne. Cinema 1 is so big and it's like being at a theatre. The chairs in that cinema have the fold up arms which is great if you are with someone you want to cosy up to. I have not been to Gold Class yet so can't comment. The gift vouchers for both Gold Class and the general cinema are a great idea. The still do "tight arse Tuesdays" which is always good in this day and age when everything costs so much.

I go to this cinema quite often, I am also a Regent Multiplex member. This means I receive a different offer each week which is usually a 2 for one voucher for any session for a particular movie each week or an upgrade at the candy bar. Cinema 1 is the pick of the lot (haven't been to Gold Class). It is a massive old theatre.

Another unsatisifed 'Gold Class - Front Row' customer.
The experience of Gold class was something we had been looking forward to for a long time and overall the people at Regent Cinemas did not disapoint.
The service by the staff was great and the comfort of the Gold Class seats were second to none. However, we had the unfortunate experience of sitting in the front row. Once the movie started, it was not long before my neck sore from tracking the action across the screen and at times this caused me to feel quite ill.
The front row is far to close to the screen. At all costs avoid this experience by checking the seats available prior to purchase.

This rating refers to the Gold Class cinema only. The rest of the cinema is usally good. We went to Gold Class to see The Bourne Ultimatium (great movie by the way!). When trying to book on the phone we were advised this couldnt be done over the pnone for some reason as we had vouchers. We were also told that we would need to pay a booking fee because we were booking ahead. To avoid this we apparently had to come in on the night and see if there were seats available. We decided to go in and book anyway to ensure we could see the movie. Fortunatly we were not charged a booking fee and were able to get our tickets. When we arrived for the movie we were greeted by friendly and attentive staff who took out food and drink orders in a smart waiting / bar area. We were then taken into the cinema and were seated in the front row. These seats are so close to the screen you have to turn your head from side to side just to follow the action. We also felt dizzy and ill from watching everything so close!! When you are paying a premium for the Gold Class experinece it is really unforgivable to cram people in so close to the screen. MY ADVICE IS CHECK WHAT SEATS YOU ARE BEING BOOKED INTO AND DO NOT BOOK IF ONLY THE FRONT ROW IS LEFT!!! (They never told us.) It is not worth it and you will be disappointed. The rest of the setup is good. The cinema screen is a good size, the staff are friendly and the seats are amazingly comfortable.

Great art films and roomy cinemas, but not so hot for a gold class experience unfortunately. We phoned ahead to book the gold class tickets and were told that not only had they added a booking fee of $3 but that we had to come in and book in person. This is contrary to the website instructions. So we went and booked in person, at which point they didn't ask for details, or charge a fee, or think to inform us we would be sitting in the very front row. The front row seats are way too close to the screen. I felt dizzy and carsick throughout the busy scenes in the movie and left with a headache. Very disappointing experience for such a premium price.

Approximate cost: $29 per ticket

Cinema is situated in the centre of town, they do standard discount Tuesdays, special offers for movie club members and has a great main cinema (number 1) which is an old theatre. Upgraded Gold Class area recently.

Approximate cost: $9-$13.50
