At the movie we saw yesterday, it sounded like only the front centre speaker was set up. Definitely no surround sound. Picture not sharply focussed. No wonder numbers continue to drop when movie-goers can often get a better theatre experience in their own homes. We hadn't been for quite a while as the last time the sound and picture quality were also poor. Will not bother again as we get better sound and picture at home, also without the coughing, plastic bag rustling etc.

I have been to the Regent Cinema in Ballarat on many occasions, for both regular viewing and Gold Class. Even their smaller cinemas are comfortable with great viewing, although Cinema 1 is my favorite. Gold Class is great also with the comforts you would expect.

They also now have Movie Clubs which are great value.

Service was fine as they have people manned at the ticket counters, kiosk and at cinema doors. Cinema tough is small and pictures a bit distorted from side viewing.

I enjoy going to this fantastic cinema. It is cheaper than many other Village cinemas around. However, when joining their new movie club ($10 membership for basic)... I mentioned a few typographical errors on the form I was filling out. I only mentioned it to make sure I knew what I was signing up for and so they knew that others might have the same queries. I was told by a very nasty person that no-one has had any problems with filling out the form before and that I am the only one who has a problem with it! I still joined the club as they stopped sending out free email offers, and I go there very often. I would have however appreciated some old fashioned politeness.

I really love this old theatre. It's much nicer than the new ones being developed closer to Melbourne. Cinema 1 is so big and it's like being at a theatre. The chairs in that cinema have the fold up arms which is great if you are with someone you want to cosy up to. I have not been to Gold Class yet so can't comment. The gift vouchers for both Gold Class and the general cinema are a great idea. The still do "tight arse Tuesdays" which is always good in this day and age when everything costs so much.

I go to this cinema quite often, I am also a Regent Multiplex member. This means I receive a different offer each week which is usually a 2 for one voucher for any session for a particular movie each week or an upgrade at the candy bar. Cinema 1 is the pick of the lot (haven't been to Gold Class). It is a massive old theatre.

Another unsatisifed 'Gold Class - Front Row' customer.
The experience of Gold class was something we had been looking forward to for a long time and overall the people at Regent Cinemas did not disapoint.
The service by the staff was great and the comfort of the Gold Class seats were second to none. However, we had the unfortunate experience of sitting in the front row. Once the movie started, it was not long before my neck sore from tracking the action across the screen and at times this caused me to feel quite ill.
The front row is far to close to the screen. At all costs avoid this experience by checking the seats available prior to purchase.

Approximate cost: $30.00

This rating refers to the Gold Class cinema only. The rest of the cinema is usally good. We went to Gold Class to see The Bourne Ultimatium (great movie by the way!). When trying to book on the phone we were advised this couldnt be done over the pnone for some reason as we had vouchers. We were also told that we would need to pay a booking fee because we were booking ahead. To avoid this we apparently had to come in on the night and see if there were seats available. We decided to go in and book anyway to ensure we could see the movie. Fortunatly we were not charged a booking fee and were able to get our tickets. When we arrived for the movie we were greeted by friendly and attentive staff who took out food and drink orders in a smart waiting / bar area. We were then taken into the cinema and were seated in the front row. These seats are so close to the screen you have to turn your head from side to side just to follow the action. We also felt dizzy and ill from watching everything so close!! When you are paying a premium for the Gold Class experinece it is really unforgivable to cram people in so close to the screen. MY ADVICE IS CHECK WHAT SEATS YOU ARE BEING BOOKED INTO AND DO NOT BOOK IF ONLY THE FRONT ROW IS LEFT!!! (They never told us.) It is not worth it and you will be disappointed. The rest of the setup is good. The cinema screen is a good size, the staff are friendly and the seats are amazingly comfortable.

Approximate cost: $29.00
