Really friendly and have more in the shop than most mainland servos. Nothing to stop me coming back here now sell smokes and papers just need to sell coffee and I wouldn't have to goto any other shop on the island
I live on Russell and the petrol stations great. They sell fuel, ciggies, magazines, spare parts, food and drinks and newspapers which is good. I think the fuels a pretty competitive price. I've tried doing it myself and bringing from the mainland and it's way more expensive to do it yourself.
I honestly believe this is the worst service stations I have seen in my life, everything and I mean EVERYTHING looks like its literally gonna fall to bit! The fuel pumps look like they will explode any second and the fuel quality is awful, not much at all inside the station either, the fuel also is very expensive, much much rather get my fuel on the mainland!!
The Pumps are completely fine? In fact the same as mainland pumps. I think this lady just has a bee in her bonnet. Maybe she should get it checked out by the mechanic who is also avaliable in the servo.
I have to say I was unimpressed. The servo is old and ratty, and the pump just LOOKED like it might fall over at any given moment. Shop wasn't much better and the petrol is really expensive.
Overpriced, bad quality fuel. When we first moved there, we had lots of locals telling us to NEVER use the servo but to buy our fuel from the mainland as the fuel quality was bad and caused problems with their cars. I learned that this was true the hard way.
They don't sell much other than oil and other car stuff.
When you live on an island with no bridge access to the mainland, a petrol station is one of the must haves. Russell Island Service Station fills this very important need. Together with petrol and diesel fuel, the service station also refills gas cylinders and has bloke who repairs tyre punctures. Given that most roads on the island are unsealed, this again is pretty essential.
Inside the shop you'll find the usual car essentials such as oil, brake fluid and the like. They also stock an extensive supply of hardware, together with some essential foodstuffs like dog and cat food. They have a freezer full of ice-creams, a fridge full of ice-cold soft drinks, and loads of lollies which are always popular with my children.
On the downside, there is only one unleaded fuel pump operational so at times you need to wait a few minutes to refuel. Petrol prices are also higher than the mainland, which is understandable given that the fuel comes over on the prohibitively expensive vehicular barge. Luckily the island is only around 8 km long and 3 km wide, so there isn't much driving that needs doing! The service station also closes at around 5.00 p.m. on weekdays and midday on weekends, so residents and visitors need to plan their fuel needs ahead of time.
