This review is for Veolia Transport, Capalaba QLD

Whilst I haven't used Veolia Transport for a private lease or transportation to the airport, I have used their regular Translink bus services on numerous occasions. The buses are well maintained and provide a nice high standard of seating. They are generally very clean.

Unfortunately I have experienced a few problems with buses not running to timetable and have also come upon one particularly unhelpful and rude bus driver. All other drivers, I must say, have been thoroughly professional and courteous.

Located in the Alexandra Hills Shopping Centre for over 20 years, the Alexandra Hills Pharmacy is a large, independent chemist shop. Unusually for such a store, I was astounded to have a shop assistant ask if I required assistance without me even seeking him out. Such service is becoming increasingly rare in the retail sector and is a pleasant surprise, to say the least.

Together with the ordinary goods available at such stores, Alexandra Hills Pharmacy offers a very extensive range of services including Free Medication Advice, Home Medication Reviews (HMR), No Wait Prescriptions, Free Home Delivery, Medication Packing/ (Webster Packing), Diabetes Services / NDSS, Patient Medication Profiles, Free Blood Pressure Monitoring, Home Health Aids Buy or Hire and Free Baby Clinic.

This review is for Pattemore's Meats, Alexandra Hills QLD

The rise of the supermarket duopoly has perhaps been the single most important factor in the demise of suburban butcher shops in Australia. Whereas one could be assured in the past of finding at least one butcher shop in every shopping centre, today they are increasingly rare. Should you be fortunate to chance upon one it is inevitably a cause for celebration and a reason to support a local, independent business.

Alexandra Hills Shopping Centre is blessed to have the superior services of Pattemore's Meats, a fifth generation family owned butcher shop which traces its origins back to a store opened in Central Tilba, NSW, in the 1870s. This large, well appointed store offers both self-service pre-packaged meats and counter service. The quality of the meat is exceptional and the prices very fair, particularly in respect of bulk purchases. Bypass the supermarkets for your meat and buy locally and independently. You won't be disappointed.

This review is for Dish N That, Alexandra Hills QLD

Possessed as I am of a number of skills, unfortunately cooking is not one of them. It's for that reason that I rarely venture into a kitchen ware shop. The thought of shelves of pots and pans is not something that ordinarily excites my senses. Dish n That at the Victoria Point Shopping Centre, however, has forever changed my perception of these stores.

Dish n That is a brilliant shop in which even the most reluctant housekeeper or cook could easily become lost for hours and hours. Offered for sale are cooking wares, plates, crockery, gift wares, candles, utensils, teapots, crocheted cozies, cards and a plethora of other items. A sale bin is ordinarily outside of the store offering items for up to 40% off the marked price. To top it off, the staff of this independently owned business are incredibly friendly. Any question asked will be cheerily answered and you can be assured of leaving the store with even the smallest and most inexpensive item beautifully wrapped for you. Highly recommended!

Located in the smallish but very accessible Alexandra Hills Shopping Centre, Booty Handmade Treasures is a treasure trove of gifts, clothes, jewellery and homewares. The vast collection of photos on Booty's Facebook page provides an extraordinary visual representation of the diversity of items for sale in this exquisite store.

Only a 7 minute ferry trip from Victoria Point, Coochie Island is the perfect destination for a day trip escaping from the hustle and bustle of the city. The island is also a popular location for short breaks and longer holidays.

This review is for Bay Islands Computer Services, Russell Island QLD

I can't commend Bay Islands Computer Services enough for their prompt and inexpensive repair of my HP Pavillion all in one desktop. The computer had been "knocked over" by my children and refused to boot up. It had only been returned from a warranty repair with a mainland computer company about a month previously. That service had taken 8 weeks and was a complete nightmare. Knowing that the warranty would not cover this "self inflicted" damage, I followed a recommendation on WOMO and went local. I couldn't have been happier.

I rang Sam at around midday and within an hour I'd dropped the computer off to him. Little more than an hour later I received a phone call advising that the computer needed a new hard drive. An incredibly reasonable quote was given and work commenced on the repair. I collected the working computer at 8.00 p.m. and parted with less than $100.00 for the repair, which included the new hard drive. Bay Islands Computer Services can be assured of my future business.

I've just received my first DVDs ordered through mightyape.com.au and am exceptionally pleased with their service. The website clearly indicates whether an item is in stock and ready for delivery, or if a delay in shipping of 2-3 days is anticipated. Postage is a very reasonable $4.95, irrespective of the number of items ordered. For an additional $2.00 a signature on delivery service is available.

Mighty Ape stock an extensive array of DVDs the majority of which are as cheap, if not cheaper, than other online retailers. Dispatch of goods is efficient and I received my order three days after placing it. The DVDs arrived in perfect condition, although without the plastic wrapping which ordinarily comes with new items. An added bonus was that in ordering through a link on rewardscentral.com.au I received 2 points with the aforementioned for each whole dollar spent at Mighty Ape. Highly recommended.

This review is for The Vet Shed, Jamboree Heights QLD

verified email - 12 Jan 2013

Having read so many positive reviews of The Vet Shed on WOMO I thought it about time to try out this online veterinary supply company. I was certainly not disappointed. As usual, I did some online searches prior to ordering to ensure that I was getting the best possible price for my desired product, a 100ml bottle of Frontline Spray. The Vet Shed was cheaper, or the same price, as 95% of other online retailers. The only cheaper option, once postage was taken into account, was a Sydney based company. As I wanted to at last release my three month old kitten into the great outdoors, beset as it is with paralysis ticks, I wanted the product as soon as possible. The Vet Shed, as a Brisbane based business, was therefore the obvious choice.

I placed my order with The Vet Shed early on Thursday morning, and by lunchtime that day I'd received notification of the dispatch. The parcel arrived in my letterbox the next day, Friday. Sent as an eParcel, the package was trackable through Australia Post notwithstanding that I only paid the standard shipping cost for items below 3 kg, which was $6.50. An added bonus was that in ordering via a link on www.rewardscentral.com.au I earned 2 points for every whole dollar spent. I couldn't have been more pleased.

Approximate cost: $26.35 & $6.50 postage

This review is for Chandler Megafresh, Capalaba QLD

I spied this fruit and veggie barn yesterday as I was visiting one of my favourite establishments in the Redlands area, Capalaba Produce. Reaching the store required a u-turn on busy Old Cleveland Road, however it was certainly worth it. What I found when I entered Megafresh was not only an amazing fruit and veg shop, but also an incredible butchers and deli.

The fruit and veggies are fresh and incredibly well priced. Most items as you enter the store are sold in buckets of around 1kg each. To feed my ever hungry children I was able to pick up tomatoes for 99c per kg, cavendish bananas for $1.29 per kg and pink lady apples for $2.99 per kg. They also had 2 iceberg lettuces for $3.00 and a six pack of Lebanese bread for $1.49. Brushed potatoes came in at a bargain price of 5kg for $4.99. My kids were stoked by my bags of goods and relieved by the cooling air conditioning which was a great relief from the heat outside. I highly recommend Chandler Megafresh.
