Dr Gumpel was rude and disrespectful, for a cancer vet you’d think he’d have a little more compassion for me and my sick cat. Id leave 0 stars if I could

Over the long weekend my 16y old dog went into acute respiratory distress and was in trouble - my local emergency vet (who we have been seeing for 15 years) said they had a 2 hour wait even for emergency due to the long weekend being understaffed - my dog would not make it that long or suffer brain damage from lack of oxygen. I rang SASH and they said come in. We rushed there - the minute we walked in her door they said she needs help - had her taken out back to be assessed, put on oxygen and looked after. No wait at all.

She was very well looked after. The cost estimate was higher than I normally pay for similar services but when I went out the back to say bye before I left her overnight - there were so many staff (even on a long weekend) - I felt really confident they would look after her.
An emergency is an emergency and I would prefer to pay a bit more for the high ratio of staff care on hand and to get seen quickly.

24 hours later she was home and well back to her old self. The final bill was 10% lower the bottom of their low end estimate, so I definitely did not feel they had charged for services she didn’t need - it was actually less.

Would definitely recommend SASH for critical situations.

We were blessed to be referred to SASH North Ryde by our oncologist when it was discovered our 12yo terrier cross’ tonsil cancer had returned after 4 years. The care, compassion and professionalism from day 1 of our 7 week journey for Honey’s radiation treatments was outstanding. Special, special thanks to Dr Elias and Dr Nick in radiation oncology and all the beaut vet nurses who looked after our baby when we couldn’t be there to hold her. The travel from country NSW was so worth it for the expert care Honey received.

Our dog was taken to SASH as an emergency patient. SASH fell down in his care because of the lack of specialist services on the weekend. Our little dog was moved to SASH from our local vet because he desperately needed an abdominal ultrasound by a radiologist, our vet could not get one to the Monday as he was very ill on the Saturday we could not wait till the Monday. Imagine our shock to find out that no radiologist was available on the weekend. Wohout that critical test, the vets could only treat each symptom as it presented itself, not being able to identify the cause and treat accordingly cost our little dogs life. Needless to say he passed away at SASH. How can SASH be reffered to as hospital when essential services like this are not available on the week ends, our little dog died because of this and we never got to find out what was causing his illness. We are left devastated and with so many questions unanswered..

Please, when taking your pet be clear on your expectations and limits. This vet will quickly erode your finances when absolutely not necessary. They are a business. Go to smaller vets whom use hands on training and dont have to rely on expensive imaging/diagnostics which can cost thousands to care for your pet. Even when I was specific in my ceiling of care and what I expected, I was charged $279 to be told "We dont know what is wrong" I was led to believe that my pet would at least be given some sort of diagnosis. Unfortunately, not.

Our bill got up to $1400 in 30 minutes. Then quoted $20k to fix our puppy. when we could afford it they convinced us not to put him down as agreed and to surrender him. They treated our dog and "APPARENTLY" rehomed him.

On behalf of my entire family and our precious fur baby Chika, I wanted to thank Dr Sandra and the beautiful, caring team at the Sash hospital for the amazing care we received for our precious Chika. It has been an emotional roller coaster for our family since we discovered Chika was unwell, we were at our wit's end not knowing what to do and who to turn to. We were being given the run-around by our existing vet and nothing was explained to us and calls were not returned leaving us feeling extremely helpless and unable to get answers to our questions. All the while seeing our precious Chika deteriorating rapidly.

We were then referred to Sandra. Right from the start we were put at ease and were not treated like another number. Sandra answered all our questions and allayed a lot of our fears and concerns with a calmness and professionalism that we had not been shown before. She has made herself available to us and has explained the process and we couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you, Sandra, for providing clarity and being a truly amazing human being. At this time, we would also like to thank the team at the Sash hospital for being so wonderful. We appreciated your care, empathy and professionalism during this very difficult time. We would not hesitate to recommend you to our friends and family.

I have everything good to say about the staff and the receptionist and the service. My dog had 2 TPLO surgeries there and they were so very good and thorough and my dog can walk and run.
The staff is friendly and very professional. Thank you to everyone

Very poor service. They don’t care about your animal. My ten months old kitten was vomiting so I took her to sash, neither the receptionist nor the nurse did the triage didn’t ask any question about what was wrong with my cat, the nurse put a rectal thermometer into my at and she went into cardiac arrest, she later died. I will never go to Sash again.

Approximate cost: $750

A year ago my dog was diagnosed by sash north ryde with a neurological incurable condition. Dr Darcy recommended surgery . She didn't recommend us to see neurologist she made decision surgery only chance he had . We trusted her , got surgery done . Day after discharge after surgery he died in my arms . This is a disgrace , there was risks involved in this surgery for Cookie , risks where not mentioned .But surgeons still went ahead. Sash refused to refund us any money . I feel they knew cookie would die but brain washed us so they can make quick $17gran. Be aware pet lovers don't go to sash . Also Dr James and Dr Looi the surgeons were unprofessional they operated on cookie. Discharged him in unfit state . Now it's 2021 cookie has been diseased since March 2020 . A vet not from sash . Told me a clot could of been cause of cookies death after surgery . As he lost a lot of blood . But sash never checked him for clots only pneumonia .And was not pneumonia . What a disgraceful ending for our boy . We paid to extend his life not end it . Before his time . The vet said clot could of went to heart or brain. I think more his heart . As he died in my arms quick was heart failure . Vet was disgraced sash never checked for clots .

Approximate cost: $17000

I'm sorry for your loss. I took my puppy to SASH and was quoted $15-20k to treat my dog, after we advised we couldn't afford the large amount, and that we would have to put our puppy down, they convinced us to surrender him. I cant work out why they would pay the $15-20K to fix our dog and then rehome him when we clearly loved him but could afford the $20K

We drove 4.5 hours to have our 8 year old Labrador assessed. The staff were caring and compassionate. We were kept well informed of his condition and the options available with the associated cost.
For our boy, we decided it was best to let him go, rather than fruitlessly try to save him. Following our decision, we felt reassured that we were making the best decision for our boy. We were able so be with him and surround him with love while he left us. There was no pressure from SASH, North Ryde, to rush a decision.
We appreciated their compassion and professionalism.
